The beta release of Jedi Runner, the server setup utility for Jedi Knight 2, is now available to those Admins willing to help test the program. Jedi Runner will function with either the full retail version of the game (jk2mp.exe) or the dedicated windows server binary (jk2Ded.exe)

If you would like to participate in testing please e-mail me direct.

Jedi Runner is a windows program designed to setup and run a Jedi Knight listen, LAN or Internet server as easily and quickly as possible.

The program is broken down into 5 "pages".

The first page is Server, here you can set information about your server that is typically picked up by Game Spy, All Seeing Eye etc., these fields are optional and are not required.

You can also set passwords, server, rcon, private. Other settings include min and max clients, min and max game clients, hunkmegs, zonemegs, soundmegs and so on.

The second page "Game" relates to the type of game you are running, for example Holocron, you can assign the games limits, Kills, Team Kills, Duels and Captures. Other options include allowing voting, downloads, anonymous connections, warmup, friendly fire and so on. There are also sub pages within the Games page that allows you to enable/disable weapons, force and dm flags. Note that the bit flags for Weapons and Force are broken in the current Jedi Knight release according to an e-mail I received from Raven. I have coded in these options as I assume a patch for Jedi in the not to distant future will fix this.

The third page "Maps" allows you to browse all installed maps on your server, standard and third party maps and to select those that you want in your map cycle, an image is displayed for each map that you highlight in the available list to help you identify a particular level. There is a built in map scanner that will scan for any new or third party maps you have installed and then make those available to you from the available map list. The is an advanced map wizard, this allows the user to create an advanced map cycle and assign various game options to each map in the cycle. You also have the option to select a preconfigured map cycle or use Jedi's auto map cycle function.

The fourth page, "BOTs", allow you to add standard or custom BOT's to your server.

The fifth page, "Misc", here you can specify up to 5 additional master servers to report too, game logging, stats logging, ip banning, execute up to four additional configurations and server messaging. server messaging allows you to assign up to two strings of text that are broadcasted to your server at predetermined intervals.

The are other import and export capabilities and I am continually adding new and improved features.

Known Bugs. There seems to be an issue with adding BOT's to a server from Jedi Runner, I have not had a great deal of luck doing this when using the recently released Win32 dedicated server exe, I don't know if it is the exe that's a tad buggy or the way Jedi Runner creates the configs, I shall continue to investigate.

Note that Jedi Runner is beta software, this means that it is in a state of on going development and will contain bugs, I think that at this point those bugs should not be "show stoppers" but none the less there will be bugs. If you find a bug I would appreciate a step by step description of your actions that lead to the bug and any files that support the bug, your configs, any screenshots of messages etc,.

I have now updated the weapon flag selections in Jedi Runner based on Raven's and this thread , you can download the full version of Jedi Runner from FilePlanet

NOTE

This is beta software and as such is in continued development. Please report all bugs and or issues with the program to me at Aphextwin@gameadmins.com including as much information as possible in regards to such issues.

Known Issues:

When adding BOT's make sure the map supports those BOTs. Check the arenas.txt file in assests0.pk3 for the default maps, check the scripts folder in any custom map pk3 file to see if it supports bots.

I have a report from one of my Admin testers that the custom Map Cycling is having some issues, I'll try and find out what this is.

If you download this program please drop me an e-mail so that I can notify as soon as an update becomes available.

Thanks and Enjoy.

I am unable to select custom (new/downloaded) skins or bots. Is there a way to do this through the additional configs commands, perhaps in a subfile? I am trying to have the server start with some of the newer bots/skins (vader, obi_wan, non amor, etc.).

Can you point me to an url for any custom BOT's and I'll have a play with it.

I did add a feature to EF Runner (Elite Force) a year or so ago that had a scanner for BOTs and allowed you to select and add them to a game. I could probably implement something similar for Jedi Runner.

I am currently updating SOF2:Demo Runner for the full release so I will need a day or two before I can work on Jedi Runner. I appreciate your patience.

Hey TheAphextwin

. I just wanted to say Thanks for the utility. It is great. Some things I would add (not change) but overall it is Kickass for the Noob.

Now I do have a question. The server auto messages. What file are they stored in? I can not locate them in the *.cfg file that is created. (i.e. the server messages that appear during the game).
