fishhead
Well I haven't gotten a response from LucasArts on this yet so hopefully someone here can answer this. I installed JK2 on Windows 2000 using the administrator account. It runs fine as long as I am logged on as administrator. When I log on as another user and run JK2 it acts as if the game has not been installed. In other words the first button on the start up screen shows "Install" instead of "Single Player". Anyone know how to get JK2 working under a user other than the one the game was installed under? Preferably without logging on under each user and reinstalling the game? If LucasArts wrote JK2 properly you should be able to install it once under the administrator account and have it work for all users like any other program. fishhead
ICGALN
Have you tryed playing the game from the jk2mp.exe in the game folder rather than starting it from the CD ?
Sutek
This problem is, as sual nothing to do with Lucasarts not writing the game installer properly. It is instead to do with...you guessed it! Windoze 2000! Installing something under Administrator does not automatically give other users permission to access the program, and as such those other users won't actually have access to the registry entries and shortcuts created. You could reinstall under each user you want to have access (tedious, but is the easiest solution I can think of), or you could look around the permissions on JK2 (these are a Win2k feature, and nothing directly to do with JK2 btw) and when you find the right section, give everyone access. Since I don't have Win2k to hand, and my familiarity is not wonderful I cannot tell you where it is exactly, but I think you sould be able to get it somewhere in Control Panel
Imrtl
I think if you open up the folder you installed it to and right click on the application, go to the security tab and make sure the users you wish to have permissions have execute permissions buy selecting the approprate check boxes. There may be another way and mostly likely there is something in the control panel or one of the administration utilities but I don't know those for sure. fishhead
Well after playing around a bit here is what I have found out: Making a normal user account a member of the administrators group will allow them to play the game normally. But as soon as I make them a non-administrator (even if they are part of the Power Users group) JK2 again acts as if it is not installed. Making everyone an administrator to let them play a video game is not acceptable so I tried giving users full control of the Lucasarts directory where JK2 is installed. However that didn't work. So there is something besides the program files/folders that administrators have rights to that is needed to play the game. Any ideas? fishhead

I run JK2 by using the icon installed on the desktop. I'm not sure what you mean by starting it from the CD. Is that possible? fishhead
