F. A. Q. - Multiplayer & Jedi Outcast

Hi, it's your old friend Jodo Kast! I'm still chasing after teamkillers, and now that Raven's Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast world has been up on the Net for a few months, we need to help our new friends!!

Jedi Outcast is different than other MP First-Person Shooters. You have a saber. You have force powers. Let's use this thread to keep track of FREQUENTLY Asked Multiplayer Questions... and Answers:

Q: What is DFA and how come it was removed from the game?

A: It wasn't removed, but this particular move has been tweaked to balance gameplay.

Q: The sabering is different in multiplayer!

A: Usually this is true for the FPS genre - what is accurate and realistic for the movie to game transformation, might not be very fair in multiplayer. Most of the game is tweaked to balance the game and make each side equal (light and dark). This way, you can still use your Personal Missile System, you just can't control a map with it.

Q: I can't connect to Multiplayer!

A: Check your firewall settings. Temporarily turn off your firewall and see if it works. If you see a list of servers, find the firewall rule that is blocking your access. It may be a system or an application firewall rule.

Q: Some servers never work!

A: Since patches come out the way they do, you are not FORCED to upgrade if you want to run a server. This means some folks are running older, not-backwards compatible servers.

Q: Is there anyway to make Multiplayer faster?

A: Try reducing your resolution. Since this is mostly close range sword fighting, 640x480 is usually sufficient. Gunners will want to stick with 800x600 or higher.

Q: What is DFA and how come it was removed from the game?

A: It wasn't removed, but this particular move has been tweaked to balance gameplay.

This doesn't answer half of the question. It would be a good idea to mention that DFA is an acronym for "Death From Above" an dis a speacial leaping attack fo rthe heavy (red) stance. To execute this move, you must press and hold the attack key until your character has finished half of his/her attack animation. (For the normal overhead attack, this point is when both hands are firmly grasping the hilt of the saber). At that point, you must press forward and jump together to execute a DFA.

The DFA does a large amount of damage and is virtually unblockable, but leaves you vunerable to the sides and back as you execute it.

Pre-patch, you could turn while xecuting the DFA, and being hit by it meant instant death, as it did 100hp worth of damage, and was unblockable. the changes the patch imposed on DFA reduced the damage it did at the beginning and end of the swing, and made it impossible to rotate while the animation plays out.

Another good idea is to reduce the geometry detail to medium. As players are usually up close, the highest geometry settings will be used, and this really bogs down many systems. In the heat of combat, you are unlikely to notice the difference anyway. similairely, messing with the shadow detail and texture quality can have a high impact on your framerate.

Q: How do I taunt?

A: Drop to the console (shift + ~. On international keyboards, this is the key to the right of 1 and above Tab) and type the following line:

bind x +taunt

Where x is the key you wish to use to taunt
