Commander Antilles, I have a Idea, remember when you said the map is too big and you dont know how to make peaple not go way off the map?Well you can make it pretty big and have a HUGGGGE! cliff they cant climb. And great work! Oh yeah and someone who was talking about making this a singleplayer map? You should start off by starting in Jabbas Palace and trying to shut down a shield around the palace so Jan and Lando can get in. Then they find out you have been the man who almost stole Han from Jabba by letting Lando and Jan in. Then you go to the exucution area (the Sarlacc) and have to fight off all those dudes and save jan and then Luke suddenly dies in the sarlacc and you have to kill Jabba your self with a gun and to kill Jabba you need to raise the wall that locked him in the room that makes him safe so you have to explore the barge and solve puzzles to unlock the door before he escapes! then u unlock the door, kill him get to the desert skiff and escape before you die with Jabbas sail Barge. Then when you escape, you have to look for Jan in the sandtroopers base not to far from the sarlaac. Then they trie to feed her to the sarlaac, then you come and rescue her and then they kiss (YUK! but they would have to like they did in yavin swamps) and you would win! Finally im done! you probally wouldnt do a singleplayer map, =( but then again its your idea!

OMFG! That map looks better than I thought it would. Once the sides are smoothed out-oh my. I have one request. I noticed that it is common in the carkoon levels, including yours, that the skiff that has the execution plank sits above the sand pit. This is not the case. In the movie, the skiff Luke was on was down in the pit, just above the Sarlacc's mouth. As in, the funnel of the sand pit actually rose higher than where the skiff was hovering. Basically, if someone falls off either of the Skiffs or the Barge, they should fall into the pit no matter what. There should not be space down on the sand to run around the mouth of the pit. Oh, and GO AVALANCHE!

I'm sure I've seen a couple where the skiff was down in the sand pit . I'll look for one. I just don't want it to be an easy escape for anyone who falls overboard. Did you see the Duel map of the other sarlacc? How did that guy get the sand pit so smooth? I also kind of like the fall into darkness, but I can't wait to see your sarlacc actually eat people! Keep up the dedicated work!

such a map would make a cool sp map to you might want to add(or give the map to someone cuz im sure you have enouight to do as it is) npcs jkII already comes with the main enemy on the barge weekeys so just a thought.

also fog ould eas'ily solve your openness prob provided that it was FAR OFF but still close enough to keep wandering off, or why not just have a sand dune to steep to climb that would look nateral, or you could and i like this one have turrets on a few paroling skiffs that fire at you when you get to far ie: hit the trigger im sure you could alter them to kill in one hit. that way the shots could come from some place but still make sense. then again you could just do a thing like when they go to far teleports them backwards 10 feet ie: jump pad and play a sound saying return to battle. OR you could build traps made by "tusken raiders" that kill you. or have boba fett parol around!

hope anyof these ides help

VIO

I'm not exactly sure why the other pits are so smooth, but I think they were patchmeshes...

I think once I figure out how to get vertex lighting on the terrain, it should look a lot better.

Also, I'm leaning toward a giant dune on one side, and a cliff on the other side... Just to avoid the 'giant circular' arena of some maps...

As for easily escaping the skiff... Frankly it's very hard to keep peple from escaping. As long as they have force 3 (or maybe even 2), it'll be pretty easy to escape. I just now got it relatively difficult to escape from the pit... I think it's going to be fun to push someone in, and watch them frantically jump around trying to avoid death. :D There is a trick to getting out, but I'll just let you guys find it.

You could make them just fall into the sand and then die in 4 seconds of being stuck.... R2 and 3P0 got stuck in the sand when they fell off so it would make some sense..... Also, I would like to see the mouth eat someone as well. Do you plan on supporting bots for this map? I wanna sit there and push in my Bobba Fett model OVER AND OVER AND OVER....

Wow, I just realized I use excesive caps in ever post I make...

You guys have to realize, it's not like I have this GIGANTIC terrain, and I'm trying to keep them from walking in it. I can't make a terrain that big, or the framerate will be in single digits.

What I'm looking for is a way to make a smallish arena that looks like it's part of a much larger terrain... but isn't. ;)

Hrm.... I am trying to think of a way you could blend the terain with your skybox. If you could do that then you COULD use my idea posted above or something similar while keeping it closed in and small.

"I'm not exactly sure why the other pits are so smooth, but I think they were patchmeshes."

Im making a pit in a map of mine and to do it I just made a many sided (24) cone , subtracted the pointy top off, made it hollow, inverted it, then removed the top and bottom pieces.

Instant pit.

And the sides look fairly smooth.

A patchmesh would probably work well too, just havent tried that yet.

I kinda like the sand dunes all the way around Idea. I played both of the current Sarlacc levels, and I don't mind the borders used for either. What matters is the gameplay around the skiffs and the pit. BTW, if you add more teeth like you said you might, I think they should be on a seperate row. In most of the pictures, it looks like the sarlacc has three rows of teeth. But it looks pretty good now...

Yah you want to keep the actuall area where you can move rather small and make the map look like you can walk around forever.

Just need to find a way to blend the bottom skybox into the terain.

...plus in the OriginalSeries the sarlacc pit it was more rounder and curvy dunes sloped down, but antilles is making it more special edition style where the pit is not round, but exactly like the pic he showed. Also the pics you have are really great of the pit itself and looks completed just need to work on the slope a little more.

Also the other skiff slowly floating around would be great.\

If your having more problems with the interior of the barge, you can ask me, maybe i might know or can give a reasonable answer.

Plus I'd love to help beta test. :D

P.S. sorry i was gone for the weekend I had some college baseball games to goto.

Okay...

I built the entire map in JK2Radiant, so that should answer some questions. The best looking dunes are just patch meshes.

And, if I can get Vertex lighting work in on the pit sides, it should look pretty smooth.

And, it looks like the actual fighting area will be pretty small. I have some cool ideas for making the boundries less obvious, and more natural.

Okay... I forgot who wanted it, but here's a 1024x768 shot from the sarlacc's mouth.

Also, I came up w/ a cool idea. I took the great sand texture from the bottom of Gizmo's Tatooine skybox, tiled it, and used that for my terrain. It looks great, and it matches the skybox...
