The Untouchable Topic?!?

Everyone who has ever posted to these forums mentioning portals has been completely ignored. Hasn't ANYONE out there EVER made ANY working portals (not simple transports) in JK2Radiant?? In case you missed my last post ("Portal textures") I am trying to figure out where the "portal_sfx" texture (or it's JK2Radiant equivalent) is located. Please somebody post something here. This is not a stupid newbie question that has been answered before. I have to believe there is someone out there who can figure this out (or has already figured this out). How about some of you more prominent (knowledgeable?) mapping forum members? Cmdr. Antiles, Vorax, Manquesa, UniKorn, ... anyone??

Well, by portal, you mean just the thing that displays another part of the map, right?

 

In that case:

 

misc_portal_surface ----> misc_portal_camera ----> target_position

 

Then, you need a brush w/ the portal texture applied to one face located within 64GU of the misc_portal_surface.

 

And, after .4 seconds of deep thought, I discovered that the portal texture was... *drum roll*

 

'system/portal'

 

:D

 

Just select the surface you want to be the portal, bring up the surface editor, and type 'system/portal' in the box where the texture's name goes. The portal's editorimage is just a black background w/ the word 'portal' in white written all over it.

Can either of you please help me - my system/portal texture isn't showing up at all in-game. It shows up in the editor ok with "portal" written all over it etc, but nothing appears when I play it. Help is much appreciated.

Well...the misc_portal_surface is targetted at the misc_portal_camera which is targetted at a target_position. And I've tried putting my system/portal texture right next to and even on top of the misc_portal_surface but without success.

I don't think I get any errors during compile, and in-game it looks just as if it were caulked; ie I can see streight through it.

 

I just can't see what I'm doing wrong, unless there's something wrong with the texture itself maybe...
