Importing skins into 3ds max

I'm rather new to all this, so I beg you for some patience!

 

I have 3ds max 4.2. I want to make a new player model. What is the easiest way to importan existing jkii model/skin into 3ds to play around with it? Any help would be most appreciated!!

 

P.S I have downloaded the tools, and set up 3ds to view .md3 files and .xsi files. Simply don't have any of the player models in either of those formats that I know of!

if downloaded the tools then you will have both the stormtrooper and kyle in xsi format. They are both called root.xsi and are in their appropraitely named folders in the tool release.

the only ones we can edit freely right now, in 3d studio, are the stormtrooper and kyle files, as spacemonkey said. however, if there is infact a GLM importer for milkshape....
