Vader10
This is just my opinion so don't flame me too bad for it. How can the type of characters in Ep I and Ep II be as good as in Ep IV - VI? It is in a different time period with different types of people. The new trilogy revolves around the Jedi. Jedi are very strict about following code and not letting out emotion. People slam Mace Windu because of the way he talks. Hell, that is the way he is suppose to be. I think people get tired of hearing all the Master this and young padawan that, but that is how they were suppose to be. In the original trilogy and especially ANH, the characters were made up of a no nothing dreamer (Luke), a scoundral with a big furry friend (Han / Chewie), an old Jedi who has seen too much (Obi), a kick ass villain in the forefront (Vader), and a very young woman with an attitude (Leia). Hell, of course these people are going to have more character! They were playing parts that had lots of lattitude in what they could say and do. The bantering back and forth between them was believable because of their personalities and their "place" in the SW Universe. In the new trilogy, the characters are suppose to be staunchy, uptight jedi. I do agree that Obi's role could have had some more lattitude, but for the most part, they were what they should have been. It would have been too wierd seeing bantering going on between the Jedi council. They are afterall the council and have very strict codes of conduct. In a way, they were the elitist of the universe. The only characters that had leeway in Ep I on how they could act were Jar Jar () and Anakin. Anakin was too damn young to do much with. Since they really didn't have C3-PO and R2-D2 for comic relief, they used Jar Jar to fill that role. Look through all the movies. The droids were there to fill the comic relief role. In Ep II, the droids were back for comedy and I personally found it refreshing. I think Anakin was played as well as anyone could. They had to take him through a WIDE range emotions in the movie and Hayden pulled it off as well as he could. Obi wasn't as open this time around because he was tring to act like a master teaching a pupil, which he did. For me, I think Ep II ranks as the 2nd or 3rd best movie. I personally rank them Ep Iv ANH, Ep VI ROTJ, Ep II AOTC, Ep V ESB, and then Ep I TPM. My suggesting is to watch the movie and just let it suck you in. Don't worry about all the crap you here from critics and others. If you don't let them get to you, I bet 9 out of 10 of you will love the movie. Sorry for the long rambling, but I had to get it off my chest. LDV
Vader10
I see lots of reads but no comments. I guess everyone agrees with me.
nattydred
Compared to a good movie, this is a poor movie. Compared to the first three SW flicks this is a very bad movie. If you let it "stand on its own" it falls flat. The only people that like it are hardcore fans that think its cool they get to hear crappy jokes by c3po again. Kyth'emos
I agree with you Vader10, I think that the new movies are just as good as the old they are just different in style because of the different time period both in the movies and in Lucas's life. Chastan
I think you have good points, Vader10. I'm not a very good movie analyst, but I did think the movie was fun to see, and I enjoy the droids. =) Some say it was aimed at kids or something...maybe that's what the droids were there for...but who really cares? Sometimes those kind of things just make you smile...or is that not supposed to be appropriate for a SW film? But really, this is a pretty good movie, for anybody who hasn't seen it, it's worthwhile. There are good / bad points, but for most I think you'll be happy to catch it in the theatres.
[bh] Jodo Kast
You're right! I can't wait to see the destruction destined in Episode 3! For somehow Episode 4 is a battle-scarred, industrial time. Not a time of artisans and courtesy.
[bh] Jodo Kast
btw, nattydred, yes you HAFTA like C-3PO to be a 'true' fan. This guy has more emotion and character than half of the actors you see! It's a sequel, if you don't want to watch it cuz 3P0 pissies you off, please don't watch it. You have your reasons. BTW: AOTC ROCKS!!! YEAH! hard to rank it right now... might be one of the top 5... must see Episode 3 to tell...
Stargazer
Originally posted by [bh] Jodo Kast This guy has more emotion and character than half of the actors you see! Whitch is one of the main problems. Come one guys, just let it go, Lucas has lost it, or worse yet, he never had it to begin with, why support his scam campain for a splint of memory of something happen 24 years ago ?!? New Star Wars is the epidone of a country whose late artistic contribution to the world amounts to lightsabers ,cliched lines, and Breatny Spears. This situation must be hell for those intelligent ones who are stuck in the middle of millions of dim minded cows, but then again ,what are you going to do ?!? Lucas is in it for the money, and his movies are what people deserve, the majority anyway. Star Wars want to reach such a crowd, so be it, we don't need those new movies, let the new brain damaged kids have fun with it. It's their game now, their time to be sucked in another pop culture phenomena , keep them happy, keep them stupid, right Goerge ?!? Let's just beleave new Star Wars has never happen, let's go back to the state of mind we were in before TPM was announced, and let us see this movies for what they are : a better visual rapresentation of the old movies, attached to some of the worse acting performance and writing ever done on such a big budged. We wanted the Lord of the Ring, he gave us D&D ,if you get my drift, what more do you need before dropping your fate and say pluck yew to mister money grubbing man ?!? Vader10
Obviously, you didn't get the meaning of my long diatribe. People act like the original 3 movies were oscar best picture winners. They were not. Some people complain about the humor from the droids. They were the same damn comic relief in the original trilogy. Some people complain about the dry one liners. Good god. The original trilogy was full of them too. Some people complain about the new characters being stuck up and staunchy. It is the time period they live in. Read the long post as to why they behave differently than the main cast in the original trilogy. what would you have be different if you don't like the new ones? The same people complaining about the lack of acting are ranting about Yoda's somewhat comical performance. I think that he is acting exactly as he should based on the original trilogy. He had that whimsical air about him in ESB. Imagine a younger version. You have just imagined the EP I and II Yoda. I do agree with jar jar going over board on Ep I. He was a little irritating to me, but I got used to it. Heck, Luke irritated me in Ep IV sometimes. I want talk about the non-character aspects of the movie as compared to the originals since this thread's topic is characters.
