There are a few tips still relevant to 1.03 in the General Sabering section of this guide:

However, keep in mind that 1.03 does not reward surgical precision and perfectly timed strikes. Bugs abound; it needs a major overhaul. For example, when your opponent makes a mistake and you exploit it with a perfect strike, the blade may just pass through them with no damage. Just keep doing it; eventually one of the strikes will fire off a proper collision mapping routine and you will damage the little spud.

 

Either that, or pick up a big gun, blast your opponent to a million bits, bring down your console, type /quit and go out for pizza.
