Vestril
Everyone seems to rip into the prequels. The fact of the matter is we're all 20 yrs older than when we first saw the origianl trilogy, we now have the ability to analyse and tear to pieces. At the end of the day the original trilogy weren't brilliant films, but they had that unexplainable magic, when we were kids, just like He-man, spiderman, transformers etc. So were reserve a special place for them in our hearts and minds. If you could wipe your memory and watch all 6 films from begining to end, you wouldn't be comparing 1,2 and 3 to 4,5 and 6, and if you didn't you wouldn't have the aggression towards the prequels that everyone seems to have now. You shouldn't compare the prequels to the OT, they're all part of the same Saga. remember the order your supose to watch them in. It doesn't matter that in real time C3P0 was created first in ANH. In the chronology of the films the phantom menace was his genesis. You're all bitching about the way he seems to be going back and explaining himself. At the end of the day he isn't , he's telling a story which has a begining for all characters involved and an end. So what if the prequels aren't as good as the OT? In the grand scheme of things don't you save the best till last. Thank you, I once tried to put it that well and utterly failed. Your point, I think, is exactly correct, for most people. Luke in Bespin
we should not really judge the dialogue too critically... if we wanted dialogue we'd go to Oscar winning films.. Star Wars is Starwars... to my knowledge it has never been nominated.. its the idea, the scenes and the characters that we love, not what they say.. as yoda would say "Judge me by my script do you? for the force is my ally, and a powerful ally it is"
00M-187
If you went to this movie and didnt enjoy yourself you have got some serios personal issues. Movies are all about enjoying yourself and being entertained. If you seriosly criticize this movie and dont like it you've got some issues. Especially for a star wars fan, I can understand how Ebert, being a 55+ gay man with no imagination giving this movie a weak review, but come on you cant actually say you didnt enjoy this movie. Kincade
btw....5 and 6 script were written by Lucas's wife. the episode 4 script was as well, but Lucas *editted* it. thats why the dialogue is kinda poor in 1, 2, 4 compared to 5, 6. i liked episode 2, 1 wasn't so great, but episode 2 seemed allright. You're mistaken. The supposed 'wife' turns out to be not his wife, but simply a very good screenwriter of the time who just happend to be a female. She died before RoTJ was released. Lucas always said he had rejected her script and re-wrote it himself, but i really doubt that. Truth is, the magic of Star Wars was due other people, individuals who no longer work for Lucas, a shame.
