skies

I'm a complete newbie in editing, so I could use a little help.

I have read other threads, but I just can't figure out how to make a sky, and I would appreciate it if someone would give me (or direct me to) a step by step how to do it.

Thanks!

I am not new to mapping at all, but I am relatively new to editing for the quake engine and am wondering if someone with a little more expertise than myslef could answer my question. I have got my skybox setup (I'm using Bespin) but I would also like to have it emit like much as a sun. I am aware that there is a certain sun parameter that you can specify in a shader file or something. This is where I'm lost. I'm not sure if im supposed to create a completely new shader file or modify the existing or whether to put it in my .pk3 or bundle it seprately. If someone could show me what all to put in the shader and where to place it or what exactly i have to do to get my texture to emit a sun-like light that would be great. Also, any good tutorials that anybody could link me to would be cool as well.

What the hell is a sky box?

In the tutorial I have read it says that all you have to do is texture a ceiling with a sky texture and when rendered that ceiling will look like a sky.

Bull

that is not true.

I have tried applying sky shaders to my levels. This then gives me a nice bright effect on all the sky areas but it don't look like a sky.

How do I apply a texture and a shader to an area?

I have created a landing platform area in a map I'm making. How do I get a sky that goes all around it? I know which texture to use however this doesn't appear on the Brushes that I put it on.

And I don't know why!!!!

Grrrr

Please help me. Very frustrated.

A skybox is a term used to describe the way the engine handled skies. It doesn't actually DRAW a sky (as that would be impossible with the engine), it instead puts together 6 images in a box WAY the hell away from the map that makes it appear to be... really far away. :D

To see any particular skybox, you need to simply apply a sky shader (the ones with the white lines around them) to a brush face. If you apply a sky TEXTURE to a face, it won't work.

Do this... highlight all the brushes that you want to be sky (shift-click each) and cover them in system/caulk. Then select the front face of each of those textures (ctrl-shift click) and apply the "sky" shader to them in the "bespin" texturepak.

See if you can get that to work... if so...

Which sky specifically are you trying to use?
