happydan
im slwly building up ideas and materials at the moment. i want it to be a bit longer than a regular hilt, say 1 and a half feet, and ive got an aluminium 1.25 inch diameter tubing as a casing. i want to cut the tubing to look like its 2 chromed ribbons wrapped round the hilt, ending in a point similar to the graflex hilts. im not sure what the end base will be like, and id like some suggestions on what sort of features i should include. any ideas? Luke in Bespin
first of all, you need the finest crystals in the galaxy. cut into a multi-faceted face for optimum effect you need several for a fully adjustable lightsaber. then you must find reflectors and batteries. lol jk i'm thinking of building one myself for theatrical purposes (fanfilm) i've gotten a few designs on paper.. i think thats an important step.. i think you need some buttons, a nice grip... that sorta thing, but its really your own choice. lol this really doesn't help sorry hehe

Socabapu
Try searching sites that have movie props pictures. Use movie props on your search engine to find lightsabers. Just an idea. There seem to be knobs(a ball or something) on the ends of most of the new ones. A metal loop to hang it on your belt. They all have a on/off switch as well as a control to adjust the length of the blade. The ones with a shaped gaurd of some sort where the blade emerges seem really cool. (Like DV's.) I think there was one with a shiny gaurd like that on EP1? Maybe it was on Luke's original blue one? You might look into lathe work too. You can turn a lot of stuff on a lathe that could be used to decorate the saber. Metal requiring a specialty shop. Wood being a downgrade though from what you are probably looking to work with. But it's amazing what they use to make props in films with their tight budgets. Hit the library for books on filmmaking. They might have suggestions on props. Or you could do the extreme, and buy one of those replicas that sell for $800.00. Sorry. I ran on a bit didn't I? Good Luck! PS-buy one of the toys and cut off the colored plastic! happydan
well, there are 3 parts to the saber, as far as i can see. the handle, the power supply, and the emitter. ive made the handle, but i need to add some detailing.
DigitalVapor
I already built my saber hilt. All it cost me was a $30 trip to home depot and about 6 hours start to finish for construction. I went with a useable design (no protrusions to irritate the hand during duels) instead of extra odds and ends. And to justify the simplified design I "invented" the Focused Pressure Sensitive Control Collar. I added a Cell Phone belt clip knob and boom! A sweet, simple saber! You can see it in the poster/cover art here: "Shadows of the Past" Poster It's the BLUE saber.
TiE23
My advice is to put ONLY one hole unless your expecting something like a double bladed light saber. Put on cortosis gloves and don't hurt your'se when your practicing with it, and have speed dial to the hostpital on your phone. Don't use rubies, they don't work. and check out my "Instruction booklet that comes with every lightsaber" thread. Its an older one so look and the pages 1,2,3 for it.
