Lord_FinnSon
Did you mean to say that you don't like the EU books, and you have read them? Because you make it sound like you haven't read them, but are still criticizing about things that only someone who has read them would know. Well, I haven't read them, but I have tried to check things out to keep myself up-to-date with new characters/locations/timelines and other; I also read comics now and then and play SW games which both fill out some gaps. I knew I would probably draw some attention to myself with that statement, but from what I have seen and heard, everything(in EU) seems to go on forever without any real purpose. That's why I'm mostly satisfied with the movies. They DO have some real purpose and destination, and I find it rediculous that some people gripe about prequel trilogy being totally useless. However, at the same time they insist wanting to see episodes 7-9, because original movies are "sacred". What prequels do here, is that they fleshen out those "minor" characters(Obi-Wan, Yoda, Boba Fett, perhaps even Owen Lars and Aunt Beru) seen in original trilogy and especially show us, why Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side in the first place, and how the Empire was complished. Even though someone could say that they only serve as introductions to original trilogy, they DO enhance it and help us to understand those characters and their motivation better. So in my eyes they have essential place in the saga that is worth telling out. However, the problem with episodes 7-9 is that after the fall of the Empire many important characters seen in prequels and original(people I already mentioned earlier) are long dead now. What is left to tell? Well, practically heroes start to reconstruct Republic again, go through new battles and so on, but what then? If six episodes can be seen as the story of Anakin Skywalker's life and how pure evil ruled the galaxy, what would there be after this epic battle has been won? Han Solo and Leia get kids and even Luke finds himself a woman while creating a Jedi Order from the scratch? I personally don't think it would add anything new(except being totally obvious) as an extention to this saga.
Vesentac
Most of the people have nailed it on the bat, what's to see after ROTJ other than the Empire already crumbling ? If LA should make more SW movies, he has to go backwards to the War with Darth Bane, The hyperspace war, or the Sith War. Most likely the sith war due to it's more popular nature. Vestril
I knew I would probably draw some attention to myself with that statement, but from what I have seen and heard, everything seems to go on forever without any real purpose with EU. Read more into the NJO, it is a directed story arc, 22 books long with multiple authors which essentially changes the face of the SW galaxy, it is essentially about passing the torch onto the new heros of Star Wars. The original characters play greatly into it, but they are being pushed back into more of a mentoring position. Also, what purpose should it work to? It's about continuing the stories, not moving towards an end. Also, your problems with 7, 8, and 9 are similar to the problems someone might have with 1, 2, and 3--there is no real purpose, how Anakin falls to the dark side is pointless trivia, how did Palpatine fall to the Dark side?? Dooku? Maul?? Obviously Lucas had more in mind after RotJ or he would have never mentioned it. Maybe it's the story of Chewies rise to glory--I wouldn't really know, I'm not George Lucas. The point is that you can't think of it in terms of current EU, that means nothing to Lucas's vision, as someone once wrote, it's basically one step up from fan fiction. I personally enjoy reading it, but I don't have any illusions as to how much it affects Lucas's vision.
Skarfays
Saber fights rule and if sequels were made they prolly wouldn't have many, or as much, or as important, or as memorable ones.
