Jesterspaz Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 Hello all, just wanted to show some screens of my ctf map. We (Wired Lamp Studios) will be releasing the CTF map pack in a few weeks...
Thrahl Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 Good god man! Hasn't Raven hired you yet??? Those images look great. I look forward to being able to see more of that level when its done.
Jesterspaz Posted May 20, 2002 Author Posted May 20, 2002 Hehe, i wish, id be doing this > < if they hired me...
fabrikashon Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 Cant say the indoor parts agree with my likings but that outdoor section is damn fine
jedialphaknight Posted May 20, 2002 Posted May 20, 2002 hey Jester! do you think the guys at jedioutcastmaps.com can do a beta preview of it with lots of shots? email em' over at maps@jedioutcastmaps.com
achannelle1 Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Map looks good. The outside ledges look great. Can anyone say Force Push?
Jesterspaz Posted May 21, 2002 Author Posted May 21, 2002 well, i plan on doing beta testing within wls, the rest of you will have to wait for the ctf map pack!
jedialphaknight Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 hrmm well not so much beta testing but more of just taking screenshots for people to see could you do that?
TseTse Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 These look awesome, but i'd second the comment above. Most CTFers are either Tribes or UT players. Those games revolve around more outdoor settings, with limited (but critical) choke points. These maps look awesome, and I hope a real jk2 ctf mapping scene emerges. I personally think JK2 is designed for smaller dueling and LARGE SCALE ctf. The CTF maps included with the game are way too quake-ish and have too much death-by-push/pull. Sadly, most of the gamers I know who loved JK2 got bored with it almost instantly because they are from UT/t2 and they need more stimulating team stuff. The jk2 community is now currently mostly DMers, which is very unfortunate (i find it terribly boring). So, i am SO EXCITED to see these new CTF maps. I just personally want to see somebody do a really professional job with 1-2 large scale ctf maps designed for 24-32 people. Look at outdoor maps from UT like Breathe and TwinValleys. Those designs are fantastic, and there are endless Jedi variations that can really work. There is no reason that the gamers who want larger scale teamplay should have to wait until Star Wars Galaxies comes out.
TUX Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Bravo! The things I'm seeing come out of WLS are beautiful! I'm thrilled you decided to do the CTF pack next. Approximately how many maps do you expect in the CTF pack?
UniKorn Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 We will be releasing 5 maps in the ctfpack. Created by : JesterSpaz, Expandable, Vorax, Dubbilan and UniKorn Wednesday night we will be releasing a patch for the duel mappack and Tems tattooine map.
Cmdr. Antilles Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Lookin' good, guys. Even though I HATE ctf, I'll be downloading these.
Expandable Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 I haven't played Unreal Tournament yet, but how big are those maps? I suppose they're bigger than Q3's ones, but what about Team Arena? The problem with the Q3 engine is, that outdoor levels aren't that well supported and to combine both indoor AND outdoor environments in one map is rather difficult. My CTF map is rather large (at least I think so at the moment, but there were also times I thought I'll become too small) and I *think* 16 players will be just fine on that map. At least I hope so...
Jesterspaz Posted May 21, 2002 Author Posted May 21, 2002 Yeah, the quake engine is mainly for indoor corridor type fighting, that is what it was designed for. The terrain editor for the upcoming unreal 2 is easier, and faster, to get good, smooth looking terrain. The main fightning area for my ctf map is very large... but i heard that is what people wanted was a large area for quite a few people. I optimised the heck out of it, to the best of my ability. Hinting on such a large map is almost impossible. If anyone can provide me some hint tips for large maps, it would begreatly appriciated
Vitigis Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 JesterSpaz, Private Message me. I'll give you what advice I can on hinting LARGE maps ( I've made quite a few for the Jailbreak:Prisoners of War Q3 mod ). BTW, the lighting on those shots are very well done.
Xeph Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 I look forward to beta testing it, and reviewing it afterwards. >
