volrathxp
Hello there all... yes. the time has come to reveal some of the screens from "The Rave House". Be wary, they are a little bright because the copy i sent to Jedioutcastmaps.com was bpsed fullvis no light so they could take screens without having to time with the strobe lights . In reality, yes there are strobe lights in every room. Anyways, enough of me yammering on... here's the link: http://www.jedioutcastmaps.com/beta.php?id=172 Enjoy! volrath

volrathxp
heh sorry. like i said... those shots are just to show the general idea of the map thus far. trust me it's really really hard to take decent screenshots with the lights flashing on and off really fast. volrath

DannyJAllTheWay
Hope this map gets out before the weekend comes. People are going to want to go partying and they need your rave house.
volrathxp
it's still gonna be a while. i'm still on the first floor. just finished the toilet in the bathroom, totally outta patch meshes. it looks sweet. still need help triggering a water spray outta my shower with a button. anyone? anyone? volrath
Cmdr. Antilles
Use a patch mesh in the shape of the spray w/ a moving water shader applied to it. Then, make it a func_usable targeted by a func_button (or another func_usable if you want them to have to use the 'use' button to activate it), with the 'start off' box checked in the func_usable. That should do it. You might want the same button to trigger a target_speaker of a shower sound too.
volrathxp
well actually. the effect i was looking for was to trigger an fx runner (if there is a good one that looks like water falling) and have it be able to be turned off and on. volrath
Cmdr. Antilles
So you don't like my old-school techniques? Fine. I'll take them and go.
volrathxp
no no it's certainly something to think about... i just kinda wanted the effect to look as realistic as possible. plus wouldn't the player hit the patch mesh? the switch is going to be inside the shower. volrath
patchx
could u use heaps of drip fx runners triggered at the same time? -patch
Cmdr. Antilles
No, you just use a shader that is non-solid... Like the rain shader from Q3. (back in the old days, you would string a bunch of 'nodraw' brushes together over a map w/ a rain shader applied to some faces to get a rain effect. That was before these new-fangled 'fxseses... es...' Plus, on patch mesh is better than a bunch of drips... on FPS, that is.
patchx
if u made the bathroom small and completely enclosed with an area portal in the door and hint brushes used to stop the engine drawing any unnecesary bits of the map i reckon the fps would be ok the drips are pretty slow so u would have to stagger there timing so that in the pause between some of the drips, other drips were spawning -patch
xlXTaIXlx
strobe lights in every room..... maybe you should make a "rest" room so one can rest their eyes u should make different rooms with different music or make different buttons that change the song just a suggestion - tai
patchx
theres a club in my SP map where if u kill the dj the music stops the only problem is that the npc jedi you fight in it keeps taking him out with saber throws he must hate techno -patch
volrathxp
xlXTaIXlx: i dunno if there is a way to change the music track within game. that and the main theme of the map is that it's based in someones house. how many people do you see having parties where they have music in different rooms? normally they just crank it! antilles: that sounds really interesting. i'll try it out. patchx: jedis do hate techno. and the bathroom is closed off by an opening and closing door as is the shower. as of now, i have the shower pipe running up to the top of the shower and into it with the shower head as well as the toilet. volrath
