Belial6672
dont know whether this is done with a patch mesh but on maps like ctf bespin or kejim map there are large rooms, almost circular but seem to be made up of patch meshes. I just spent a while playing around with the one from kejim outpost. It is the room you enter the codes into..I extracted one of the four quarters of the room out (the room is circular and is split into 4 quarters). As I looke at it in joradient it has only a texture on one face..the other side is a wire mesh..so I know it is not a brush. But how is this shape made..tried with simple patch mesh but I cannot get the shape done right....any tips? Belial
Cmdr. Antilles
It's a patch mesh, alright. Since you already know how to make one, you just need to figure out how to edit them, and then just practice. The best way to edit patch meshes is in the vertex editing mode. Just select one, and press 'V' Then, click and drag the dots (vertices) that appear. Have fun. UniKorn
In the beginning it seems hard, but once you are used to them patches aren't that hard anymore.
RichDiesal
The only difficult aspect to patch meshes really is trying to match up one patch mesh to another with varying numbers of rows... but you can avoid that as long as you plan ahead.
Cmdr. Antilles
Yep. I used to be afraid of patch meshes before I built my sail barge. (LOTS of meshes) Now, they are my friends. We are at peace.
RichDiesal
Me too! That experiment with making the platforms line up made me figure out how to actually make them work correctly... Really, the only way to figure out how to use meshes correctly is by screwing around and trying to make something. All the trouble you will run into (because believe me, you will) and find workarounds for will teach you how to use them all the better.
Cmdr. Antilles
Yep. The best advice I can give you is to always edit meshes in Vertex mode. Nothing else. Don't use the bend tool, and dont' resize them by dragging a side. You want to always use the vertex editor so that you can keep all the vertices on a good grid point. Trust me, it will help you in the long run.
