Can't play with downloaded skin HELP!

I have recently downloaded some skins for the first time.I am able to select them to use after i load them.Now here is where my problem starts,I find a server to use get connected every thing starts loading ok until i get to the awaiting snapshot part. Once I get there my computer freezes and i'm stuck nothing works.This only happens when I try to play with a downloaded skin.AM I doing something wrong?Do I need to download anything else in order to get my skins to work?PLEASE Help if you can!!Thanks.

Hmmm.... you can see your skins only on a server which has the skins too (or so i belive), but oyur PC should definitly NOT lock up if you try to join. Is it always with the same skin? Maybe u tried a bugged one...
