More clues on the freezing issue!!!!!

We all know now that we're all experiencing the same freezing problem and I think it's a Q3 engine related problem. I just started Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and it does the exact same freeze with sound looping. Return to Castle Wolfenstein doesn't seem to do this and Quake 3 and SOF 2 don't either. I wish I had saved a thread from a MOH forum I read the other night that JK2 and MOH:AA are more similarily modified to each other than any of the other Q3 games. Can someone shed some light?

Anyone else playing MOH:AA and getting the same issues too?

Yes, I have freezing problem with MOHAA, JK2 and RTCW.

MOHAA crashes when loading first level, RTCW in the menu and Jk2 doesn´t even start it just freezes in white screen.

All other games work fine. This must be a problem with

Quake3-engine.

Specs are:

Geforce 2 MX400

AMD Duron 900MHz

Soundblaster Live!Value

384 MB RAM

Windows ME

I have tried almost every driver for GF2 and SB and updated

JK2. Nothing helps.

I was having the freeze/soundloop in JKII only they would last about 4-6 seconds and then the game would recover. What solved the problem on my system was to allocate more RAM to the sounds with the seta s_soundpoolmegs cvar. At the console, type:

set s_soundpoolmegs 32

The default is 25. As soon as I bumped it up to 32 the freeze/soundloops stopped. I can't guarantee that this will help, but it's worth a try.

There are a lot of reports that installing JK2 may cause other games to crash more frequently.

If you look at the freezing thread there are more than a few people who played games like MOH without much crashing until they installed JK2.

Some have even reproduced the effect by formating their systems and then reinstalling everything except JK2, playing without crashes until JK2 was installed again.

So anyone having problems across multiple games should try taking JK2 off.

Actually, it is well documented that this bug is called the Infinite Loop bug, or iLoop. Nobody actually has a fix for it, but there are several different PCI latency patches, and that sort of thing. But JKII does cause my other games to crash more, and it does iLoop a helluva lot more than SOF2, or Q3A.

The best documented case is on page 10, about halfway down, by registrthis. I've heard similar stories on other boards.

I'm not going through that long-ass thread again, so if you want any more you'll have to look for yourself.

All I can say is, based on JK2, I'm giving Raven games like SOF2 a miss until I hear from users that it's rock solid.

For me the lockup happens on everything but on video card...which is strange.

I've tried many GeForce2 cards with the latest drivers (both reference and non reference) to no avail.

However, I have found something out. The game doesn't lockup with a GeForce2 MX400, but it does with any other full blown GeForce (GeForce2 GTS, GeForce3 Ti, etc).

I have tried fiddling with the acceleration settings for both the sound and video and no results..

So what gives..
