Ryken Smith
I just bought the game over the Memorial Day weekend, and suffered through the three day with this problem. I can't figure it out. My computer will reboot at seemingly random intervals during the single player game. I don't know about the multiplayer, as I haven't really tried it yet. The reboots occur at just about any conceivable time, from a few minutes after starting, or after several hours of constant play. It's rebooted while I was at the start menu, paused, unpaused but AFK, during cut scenes, and just about any other occassion. It might be complete coincidence, but the frequency greatly went up on maps with Storm Troopers. While I was dealing with the garbage collector (Reelo?) I hardly had a hiccup, and spent most of the evening without any interruption (that I recall.) The problem returned in droves shortly after the Storm Troopers did. I've gotten by through saving A LOT, but that's hardly a good work around. I've tried adjusting my settings, but no matter how low I set them, I didn't see any example. I ended up back at the settings I'd originally set, and as I said, I went through a few levels without ever having it reboot. I installed the latest patch, but that didn't make any difference with this problem. Aside from the reboots, I've also encountered several less severe crashes. I find myself sighing in relief that it didn't reboot. Normally, when it crashes, the game will skip for a few moments, and then drop to desktop, leaving the Gamma set incredibly high. On most occassions, I can go right back into the game, but I have to reset the gamma level or it will be incredibly dark. System specs: Windows XP Home Ed. NoodlyGod
Does it crash in any other games? Or when you're doing cpu intensive tasks in windows? Or when you're doing a lot of tasks, rather than just cpu intensive ones. And, on the times when it's crashed quickly after launching, had the computer been left on for a long time? Ryken Smith
No, to all of the first paragraph. Crashes are rare, with the exception of a game or two that have known bugs. I can't recall the system ever having a hard reboot. As for it crashing quickly, the computer rarely gets turned off. Rather, I (or the game) just reboot it. MangaKat
I've been having similiar experiences in many of my games, such as Diablo II, Galactic Battlegrounds, and Dungeon Siege. (well, aside from the high gamma setting, that only happens after JKII crashes) Anyway, I've tried updating my drivers many times now, but to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 2, and Soundblaster SBLive! . Both drivers have been updated, and still I got problems. Also, I have Windows XP. Well, if anybody can help, it'd be appreciated. Thanks! jmike
This may be your reboot problem: 1. Go to the Conrol Panel and double click they System icon. 2. Click the advanced settings tab and click the Startup/Recovery Settings button. 3.Make sure the Automatically restart button under System Failure is unchecked It's defaulted on by XP, but that's probably not going to cure the game crashing, it'll just keep your computer from rebooting when it crashes.
