Aside from Raven (who bears 99.99% responsibility) I consider you the reason force matches have become what they are. Almost everyone I meet online and in real life that play JK2mp know and follow the techniques you outlined in your websites saber and force guides. These guides practically beg people to exploit the overpowered moves and not to bother learning anything else. While those methods are perfectly understandable for “competitive players” such as yourself, I bought the game to for leisurely fun. Now the only time I (and others I’d wager) have any fun in duels is when I find folks on a server who agree “lets not overuse pull/push + backstab so we can pretend we bought a game worth the 50 bucks”. While I never thought in a million years I’d support a “withhold of knowledge” I do believe JK2 would have been better off without your guides. But all who have posted here are absolutely right that you have contributed massive amounts of time and effort to the community…and you are owed gratitude for that! And perhaps, if you’d never published your guides, someone else would have and the jk2mp world would still be the backstabbing monster it is. I will now brace myself for the furious retort from your throng of followers and loyalists.. I had been thinking this myself some time ago. As I started uncovering things, I was tempted to keep them under wraps, but I decided I'd rather publish my findings and compete on execution rather than information. Was that a mistake? Yes, and no. I think that I only sped up the inevitable. People would have figured all that out on their own eventually if they played enough. All I did was reveal what was down the path a bit. I don't regret it. I'm glad that I found out that the game was so out of whack when I did. I wouldn't have wanted to use up any more of my own effort and time only to find out that I'd wasted 4 months rather than 2 discovering the gameplay was so shallow. That's the main reason for what some call the "over-dramatization" of my jk2 retirement. I wanted to let as many people as possible know what I'd found at the end of the road so that they could decide for themselves whether they wanted to make that trip themselves or go off in a different direction. Also, the more people that know about the problem, the more people there will be that complain to Raven, which is the only way anything will every get fixed. Raven must simply be buried in emails, or they'll never do anything. They have to feel like JK2's failures are going to affect their other properties, then, and only then, are they going to fix Jk2. Is that going to happen? I doubt it, but I've put so much effort into doing what I've done that I thought leaving without some kind of parting shot would have been a real waste. I've done everything I could think of to get everyone behind a 1.04 patch. We'll just have to wait and see if people care enough about the game to justify Raven's time or not. Weapons can be pulled faster than you can switch and fire them (at least one per second). If you are lucky, you might get off one or two bullets, but that does a helluvalot of good when 99% are blocked. BTW, using explosive weapons only results in your own death. And if you choose to run away from a Jedi using this technique, he/she can still pull the weapon from your hands (apparently, pulling weapons does not require the Jedi to see the weapon). They will also pull you so you can't run away. Its only a matter of moments before you succumb to the backstab/backslash. Camping (everybody loves campers ) with the disruptor is probably the best strategy (note: this is not a counter). Well, back to my masochistic mercenary ways. MoonShadow
Artifex, Nice post. And I like your ideas about 1.04; especially the last bit about the saber fighting. Fighting with 2 sabers or double saber should be included. But maybe only after you won a duel with another player in SP. So it would be like a throphy or something. And another thing: I'd love a duel with you just for fun... Maybe we could both learn something... Btw, I hate the pull/backstab move ! Greetz, MoonShadow Ever seen the Moon's Shadow? He's out there...
