patchx
xcom did u pick jedimaster difficulty? because it doesnt work i think you need a special spawn point or flags for the existing one or something you have to pick jedi difficulty remember this is just a beta im still working on it. i improved the framerate in the nightclub heaps and im still working on the streets to get them running better a question though would a bevel make the framerate heaps better than a big multi sided brush? -patch
Xcom
Yeah, I should learn how to read. You mentioned this above. Anyway, I loaded it ok and... 12 FPS. LOL. I know I have crappy specs but I can't really play this (to give valid comments) cuz in areas with many enemies I get like 3-4 fps. Even with godmode ON I can't even aim right. Just for the record, all huge Raven's levels played relatively OK for me, even swamps. So, I didn't finish your level (stuck in the bar). As for you question, I dunno. With bevel you mean a curve, right? I guess it depends. Curves have LOD (level of detail) which means that if distance increases, the amount of polygons rendered drops. So, maybe it will help. patchx
did u walk out the front door while they were still alive? unadvised course of action lol anyway yup gotta fix the framerate probably means losing heaps of my architecture... but hey what are ya gonna do? ive got some detail economising ideas anyway -patch
Drakewl
patchx, your map won't show up in my setup/mod menu i extracted the tavion.pk3 and the gamestart-file into the tavion-folder in my gamedata-directory, but it won't show up i also tried it with the basefolder without and with the tavion-directory, no success so i put the files into the base directory and load them with devmap by the way framerates reach from 19 to 70 fps will give some feedback later tomorrow just a question: how did you get those rodians or jan to sit or lay down on the bet? patchx
i think the mod thing only works with th patched versiojn of jk2 not sure though i made a script which gave them an animation to perform and then set the hold time for -1 so they hold it forever -patch
Xcom
patchx, you know what? I just replayed that part in the streets with r_speeds enabled. I must say that tris count is okay. It went above 10k in some places but it's not that bad for a SP map. So architecture is not the problem (me thinks). Must be the shaders.
Cunnah
ok a few things, there is a hom, its at that bit after you defeat the jedi and a load of rebels come storming round the corner, the bit with the speeder/ship thing, if you look round the corner theres a hom secondly there seems to be missing shadders, for example, theres something that looks like it should be a sprite, all i get is a black square thirdly, if you die and restart tavions saber returns to its original colour (blue), oh and that jedi MY GOD does he eat cortosis for breakfast, 12 chokes 3 frazzels from lightning and god knows how many hits from my almighty saber, and im not talking bout tickling him with it, full on beating with heavy style! other than that nice map
patchx
thanks for the input i cut back heaps on unnessesary sky shader and i think it improved the fps quite a bit ive got a pretty crap disputer and the lowest i was getting was 14 -15 now the lowest is 24-26 is that reasonable do u think? also Cunnah which jedi? the last one is impervious to lightning and saber throws cause he's like a master and stuff.....hehe...yeah thats what it is.... actually he's just Luke wrapped up in some new clothes and putting on a funny voice and thats the way raven made him.. the 2nd guys the jedi trainer and hes pretty godamn fast i cant beath him on anything other than fast stance -patch
patchx
actually i just reread these things and whats HOM? is it that trippy thing where it goes all flashy and wierd? also is it possible to cut a hint brushes angle tighter than the line of sight of a player around a corner? cause i got a hint brush there cutting along the edge of that building if u hadnt crossed the hint brushes face and could see around the corner it would do something wierd im sure ...which sux -patch
RichDiesal
HOM stands for the Hall of Mirrors effect. Turn on noclip and fly straight away from your level. That's a HOM.
volrathxp
ok, played it all the way through. i must say, i am really impressed with the scripting you've done in this. also, um... none of the music would show up. i dunno why but like the points in the map where it was supposed to change music it didn't. btw" thought it was really funny that you had Jans dancing in the club. I'd change her skin though or something so she didn't look quite like Jan with the goggles and **** you know. I still think a Hud change would be nice ... overall even on my system things ran well... framerates did drop. good job man, keep up the good work! psst.... are you interested in helping a fellow mapper learn some icarus ****? let me know man... lata! volrath
Drakewl
most of the criticism has been said, but i may have to add something, although its probably not really feasible for the whole map with many of the spawning enemies you can fight in direct melee combat, which adds many polys to the scene since you can see all of those models in their most detailed mode in very opened areas some enemies could spawn far away from the player and not directly reachable (at least for the first moments) instead of spawning 6 or more enemies at once near the player which often adds a poor framerate to your level. those far away enemies could shoot with high precision rifles or even rocket launchers at you from good positioned plattforms/plateaus, and for the last weapon you would have a good chance to evade the rockets, what would make more fun imho by the way, with a framerate of 15 it is an impossible task to push away every incoming rocket the advantage of those distant enemies would be their decreased level of detail, which may add a better frame rate ---- the last area (prison tract) could have some more eye candy, ie some containers, robots, pipes and cables, energy relays or other things with the city and the nightclub you're getting some eyecandy in the beginning and midareas, but for some reasons (my taste, my preferences ) the end areas (indoor) dont look as much as impressive as the city i for mine would prefer to increase the eyecandy constantly till the end of my map, which adds more motivation to the player ---- same principle for the enemies, escpecially jedies somehow i found it to be too much of unique jedies, you put in there, although its part of the story wouldnt it be better for the sake of the atmosphere to lessen the guards on the streets and to increase the count of common inhabitants? hope i could help you somehow jan on the bed, ohh that rocked *g*
volrathxp
jan on the bed, ohh that rocked *g* Agreed. That was rather cool. Still it would be neater if her skin was different, seeing as how you can turn off her having the vest and goggles and all. I thought it was funny that he had her sort of dancing in the glass cage thingys. that was hilarious. i'm gonna play back through just to get screenies of that. that last jedi was a toughy too man.... so is that rodian... which the rodian is really cool though. good place to put him. volrath
patchx
thanks for the input peoples ive reaaly reaaly improved framerate now i didnt know about the whole "overdraw" issue..heehee ..sigh... anyway i deleted heaps of unnesesary skybox and aother dumb uneeded shaders and its running twice as fast in most places ..i really really wish i did that before the beta..lol i also deleted some unnsesary patch meshes in the club and itys runnung around 45 - 50 fps when your fighting the jedi now it was light 25 on my puter before i also made heaps of glass and cups and bottles and stuff breakable which helps fps when they break plus is really cool mid lightsaber fight when a bottle erupts into shards that is a intersting point drakewl about the lod on enemies i may well take heed also i kinda wanted the prison area to look bland but i could spice up the control room bits and the last area im still adding kewl stuff to it so the final will be a bit different to the beta (im making a reason for tavion not being able to return to her ship....KABOOM!!! hehe) -patch
patchx
just read your thingo volrathxp dunno if i can help ya man i dont really know much about scripting i just ripped off bits of ravens scripts that looked like they do what i needed the rest of the stuff is just using target_things and func_stuff (im just a dumbass plumber ) -patch

patchx
i just played through my final version with full screen (i usually dont use full screen so i can do other stuff while im waiting for the map to load) and i noticed a ridiculously severe slowdown where the disco lights are (from 34-40 non fullscreen to 20- 22 fullscreen in my latest version) did that happen to anyone else in the disco area? i got as pretty crap video card -patch

volrathxp
Patch, I noticed a couple things off in the final release... just some feedback here: I still noticed z-fighting around a lot of the doors. Also, this was odd, when I was in the first part of the street after you fight Mace Sundancer, I noticed these little boxes that looked like what happens when a texture doesn't show up on the buildings..... at first i thought it was my vid card so i went on and it didn't happen. i went back and they were still there. I dunno, maybe you know what I'm talking about. All in all though man, I can't get enough of this level. It's enjoyable, fun to play through, and the Rodian Jedi is straight up cool. volrath
