hey im relivily new to map making and well i made a map before i found out about how you should caulk maps (ie: select everything and caulk it then texture only the faces) but i already sent so much time on textureing but i do have a lot of small brushes that have only a few faces showing so cualking is nessassary can i just select the burshes and auto cualk them whats the differences between the two methods?

Auto-caulking only detects faces that are completely covered by another face... meaning autocaulk will only caulk faces between brushes. You should also be caulking the non-visible faces of brushes (faces that the player can't see from any point in the game he could reach without noclip) for optimum framerate.

It really ends up being better in the long run if you just manually caulk everything... if you do it yourself, you WILL miss caulking brushes that you can't see. It just works that way. But you won't miss that big pink thing when looking for things to texture. :D

yeah i found that out the hard way i started my way and i started to realize how many i missed so im doing it the hard way

After a bit of discussion late last year, djbob removed Autocaulk from Bobtoolz because it was causing more problems than it solved.

I had modified Q3Map to eliminate most hidden faces at that point, so there was little reason to keep it around.

However, it is still best to build with caulk, then texture the visible faces.

And for the last damn time, it's CAULK and not CHALK. :p

THIS is CAULK!

THIS is CHALK!

Notice the difference?!?! CAULK is used to fill in gaps! CHALK is used to write on sidewalks and blackboards!

UNDERSTAND?!? :swear:

:p
