I feel nausious...

 

 

 

 

I need feedback people! I need it. Something's gotta give me a reason to keep mapping. Doesn't anybody want to share any thoughts on this map? C'mon, anybody? If not, then I'll just let this thread die, then hang up gtk for some other year. I'm sorry, but this isn't working. Feedback, feedback, I need it, dangit!

Man, you are too high-strung. :p

 

First of all, you can't expect a bunch of people to flock around your level when it's not a high-demand item. Making an original-idea map without a reputation for quality maps in the community makes it hard to get supporters. :)

 

Honest feedback? The whole level is just too big and non-memorable. It's alright to have non-memorable areas if those areas are reasonably close to each other... but you have just large expanses of... nothing. :) The top area in the center is a good dueling platform, but the rest of it seems a bit plain.

 

You could improve it by:

1) Making all of the lower-level rooms smaller

-or-

2) Making each room memorable in and of itself

 

As in, don't make them all the same thing. :) Each of those rooms should have some neat aspect to it that makes it memorable.

 

I suppose you suffer from the common "It's a good map, but it's no spectacular" syndrome which allows your map to get lost in the shuffling of files that is the JK2 community. Make each and every part of your map memorable and you will avoid that very problem. :)

That's a good idea. But, since there's going to be a ffa map that 7x7, I can't make 49 different rooms. There's got to be some repetition. I could probably do something for the duel map though...

 

 

 

As for making them smaller. That would severely hamper the fighting area. I can't do that. But, I'll try to keep going, and I'll do something to make this map leave a legacy...

Eh... the duel map you have now is big enough for FFA. Hell, it might even be too big for that. And 49 rooms will be way too goddamn confusing, I almost got lost in the 9 you have now. :p

 

And space is not as necessary as you think. Look at ffa_raven, that's just halls with a few open areas for fighting.

 

You seem to think that areas need to be HUGE, when they really just need to be big. :p

 

Regardless, all your rooms need to be unique somehow or else this map will just suck because you won't remember where you are. :)

At least it's not as low as the raven map, lol. That's low, one of the reasons I hate that map. Not enough space. But this map has enough space to jump around in. And, I'm completely redoing just about everything. Curse my stupidity:mad:! I didn't caulk anything! Or detail brushes. BTW, I'm not entirely sure what detail brushes do. Does light shine through them, or am I completely wrong. I read your tutorial Rich, but I'm still not sure. Could anybody fill me in about this? Thanks!

Wow, that's complicated! I think I get it though(sorta). I'll do that next time I work on it, I think I know how now. Detail brushes too. Oh, and I have a problem. Is caulk supposed too look like a non-shader(shaders that don't have an image, so it draws that grey and white checkerboard)?

Cause I caulked some stuff, for my central room. And it was open to the void(cause it hadn't been connected to the rest of the map yet) So I looked at the outside, and it looked that way. Why? I also found that some of my triggers were being drawn(showed the grey and white thing), were solid, and didn't hurt a bit. Anyone know why?:confused:

Oh boy, I'd better get this back up.

Of course, this isn't just a bump, it's also a small update. The upper level of the central room, it's getting changed, big time. I've completely ripped everything out, and done a major change(hehe, I've used all three in the same sentence, lol).

The only things that haven't changed are:

1. The big bonfire thingy.

and

2. The force boon.

Everything else has gone. I've also caulked some stuff, although it isn't working(I may know why, but I have to test my theory). I think it's a deffinite improvement. There is much more fighting space now. You have practically the entire floor(with the exception of the only colums in the corners, and a few things on the floor). I'll have some screenshots as soon as I:

1. Figure out my caulk problem.

2. Figure out why the heck I can't join our server!

3. Finish it.

 

 

So, hang on, I'll get some more screens maybe by tomorrow. Jut hang in there!

OK, no updates on the temple yet, still working on my hydroball map. But, I do have something else. I'm adding another map to this pack. A hydroball map. It'll be a three by one grid this time, with the goals on either sides, and a main area thing in the middle. Don't worry, I'm going to have plenty of big openings leading into the goal areas. Spectating for this map will be hard, but I may just make most of the floor in the lobby area glass. Anyway, just keep waiting, and I'll get back to this map.

And, uh, I'm not sure what you mean. What do mean by "floors"

There is only one main floor, the second floor is so small, it isn't really worth mentioning as a "floor"

And what do you mean by that "ffa/tffa(?)/holocron/jedi master 3x3" stuff?

I'm confused...

Lol, ok, how to say this.

Okay, now, I know I told you that I wasn't going to do anything drastic, but, uhhhh.....

 

 

I've been thinking(weird, huh?), that uhh, it would be kinda not-so-normal for there to be three temples almost exactly the same. So, things are going to change, drastically.

Instead of being three(or four, if you count the hba map) temple(not maps, temples), there's only going to be one. All the maps are going to be set in one temple.

And the maps are going to change.

Duel map will be topmost level of temple, idea as yet uknown.

CTF map will be current duel map, plus the added "flag" rooms. This will be the middle floor.

FFA map will be main floor, mostly dining hall type things.

HBA map will be the same, will also be sub-level.

 

The temple(instead of being on Mimban) will now be on a planet of mostly water(these maps being set on an island/temple thing sticking out of water). This will be the H2O teams home-planet.

 

 

So, there you have it, the drastic changes to mimban temple. Now, let this thread die, nad await the new thread to come...
