Mr.T Kicks Ass
As long as the Sun Crusher charges it's weapons beforehand, than the death star does'nt stand a prayer of a chance.
iguelmay
in the even the sun crusher foolishly gets trapped in the tractor beam.... simply launch a missle at the beam. The beam homes in on the missle... the missle blows up the tractor beam projector, and bam... besides, the suncrusher would shoot the stars before it approached the deathstar, assuring victory no matter what. Jedi_Monk
I curse KJA for causing this argument. I curse him 1000 times. I concur with Vestril. The SW authors are way too superweapon-crazy... the Deathstar Prototype, the Suncrusher, the Darksaber--wait... those're all KJA... KJA killed SW lit, Hambly stuffed it into the coffin, Tyres nailed said coffin and Hambly (AGAIN!) burried it deep in the cold-cold ground. Vestril
I honestly don't know why they let Hambly write another book after Children of the Jedi. That was the only Star Wars book I started but couldn't finish. I honestly threw it away after getting about halfway through. I don't know why I bought Planet of Twilight...but I did. It wasn't as bad, it only made me want to cry...

The beam homes in on the missile? Erm, if missiles were that advance, then Luke would've had an even easier time blowing up the Death Star. And suncrusher shoots the stars beforehand? Who says they're near a star when they fight?

Yup, and no one will try to debate that one, since anyone who knows the Sun Crusher also knows that it had a hard time even blowing up a skeleton of the Death Star... Vladimir_Berkov
Death Star. No contest. Think of it this way. The Death Star is like an aircraft carrier. It can project power. Put the Death Star somewhere and it dominates the surrounding space. The Suncrusher can only do one thing, destroy a star. In a setting with no stars, it has absolutly no real offensive ability. Plus, the Suncrusher cannot project power, other than the threat of destroying a sun. Enemy ships can simply evade the Suncrusher, whereas enemy ships cannot evade a Death Star and its complement of starfighters. The Suncrusher is basically an "all or nothing" weapon. It can destroy a sun, and its attendant planets, or it can just sit there. A Death Star has levels of force available, from sending out boarding parties to blasting away starships, to destroying planets. Now, what about a fight between the two? It has been some time since I have read the book with the Suncrusher, and I don't really want to reread it because it wasn't very good. The suncrusher is not especially fast, and lacks momentum because it is so small. The anti-star weapons on the Suncrusher will not work on the Death Star, so the only offensive option of the Suncrusher is to ram the Death Star. The only problem is, that this ramming will kill every living thing aboard the Suncrusher, even if the ship itself survives. The g-forces created once it impacts the surface of the Death Star would not be surviveable by the inhabitants, because in order for the Suncrusher to even penetrate the surface to an appreciable degree the Suncrusher's velocity would need to be absurdly high, again because of the Suncrusher's low mass. Plus, from what I have read there is no way that the Suncrusher even has the engine power or speed to impact the Death Star in a fatal manner. Let's say the collision digs a 10 km hole into the Death Star. That is merely a nick, something which woudn't even cripple the Death Star (unless it hit the primary weapon) and would certainly not place it in any danger of destruction. In the end, you would have a Suncrusher with dead occupants embedded somewhere in the Death Star, where it could be fished out and studied by the Death Star technicians at their leisure.
