p_k
hmm for lack of a better place to post this here is my theroy: In times past, there was an equality among Light Jedi and Sith, thus having a equality in the Force. The dark Jedi (or Jedi that don't follow the regular teachings) may have decided to unbalance things by siding with the Light Jedi. This cause an unbalance in the Force. If Anikan is said to bring back the balance, then he kills off all the Light Jedi until there are 2 Jedi (Yoda and Obi) and 2 Sith (Emperor and Vader) but whatever happened to the Dark Jedi? This is where Luke and Leia come in. Because Luke never had "proper" Jedi training, then he didn't follow the Jedi's teachings like the Jedi before him. Now, because of this, he is considered a Dark Jedi. Now, there are 2 Jedi, 2 Sith, and 2 Dark Jedi. Anikan brought all this about and DID bring a balance to the Force. One big happy paragraph. I am a horrible speller
Stealth Jedi
That makes no sense. But if you think about it, the Sith and the Jedi were out balanced. There is only allowed to be 2 Sith. So about 5 Jedi Masters to 2 sith is unbalanced. So Anakin comes along and does bring balance, by killing off the Jedi....
Yoda KicksButt
when they say "balance to the force" , I dont think they mean balance in terms of the actual numbers of jedi and sith. They mean a balance between good and evil.
Outrider
The Prophecy of Bringing Balance To The Force is accomplished by Anakin destroying the Sith threat (i.e. Palpatine). The Sith were a force of evil throughout the galaxy for millenia. The rule of only two Sith meant that the only remaining Sith were Vader and Palpatine. Vader killed off his master, and subsequently returned to the light side of the force, banishing the galaxy from the Sith menace and bringing balance to the force. Thats my opinion anyway:)
sparky_fox
what I dont get is, you know how there can only be two sith, a master and an aprentice, how do the sith know they are the only two on the planet, in the star system, within the universe? I dont get this part, the sith are by their own nature veiled in secrecy and the like, how can palpatine, or and of the jedi truly know there are no more about? I dont think the prophecy realy refers to anikin, I think it referes to luke, as he was the catalyst to return darth vader back into anakin aka brining balance and returning things to their natural state, reviving the jedi, as it was darth that threw it all out of sync, if luke whernt around there would be one helluva unbalance, so the prophecy cant apply to anikin/vader. Cow_JK:O
Except that, in the movies, they mention that Anakin is balance boy...

Jedi_Monk
Who said that there can only be two Sith. "With the Sith, there are always two--the Master and the Apprentice, no more, no less..." --Yoda, The Phantom Menace The Jedi do the Will of the Force. They don't so much control it as go with the flow. They listen to what it tells them, go to where they think it wants them to be, fight the battles they think it wants them to fight. But Dark Siders, and the Sith in particular, do not do these things. They grasp the Force, twist it with their emotions turn it in unnatural ways to destroy and gain power for themselves--this throws the Force off balance. When there are no more Dark Jedi, there are no more people throwing the Force off balance and using its Dark Side and therefore the Force is in balance. As for how the Sith know there are only two... there's no evidence that Sith cannot sense eachother.
Jaster21801
simple answer to this "Sith puzzle" that *sigh* relies on EU... The Sith ERADICATED each other until there was one survivor, Darth Bane I think it was... So he decided that in order to keep balance of power, there must be only one master and one apprentice at a time... So that's how that came to be... So YES, there are at most TWO Sith at any given time
Outrider
Brief history of the Sith to show about the "always 2" rule: 25000 years Before Battle of Yavin Sect of Dark Jedi travel to Korriban, interbreed with native Sith people (just a name). Dark jedi and their offspring end up following the ways of the dark side exclusively, and vow to banish the galaxy of the jedi. At this point there were hundreds of followers of the Sith cult. 5000 years before Battle of Yavin The Great Hyperspace War was a great conflict between the jedi & sith, many sith were annihalated (sp?) There was also a lust for power which caused the cult to implode, destroying all but one, Darth Bane (as stated earlier). In order for the Sith cult to live on, and not be consumed by a lust for power, the rule of a master and an apprentice was created...this carried on for centuaries until Sidious/Palpatine became the current Sith Lord, and Skywalker his apprentice.
