Ok so im creating a smallish duel map and im almost done i just have a few more problems. Also i would really like any sugestions to make this a better map here are some screenshots

(sorry about the frames spaceports sucks but i can't find a better ftp site hoster)

=the map=

the map is a duel map that takes place on top of one of those large yavin pyramids it has a rotating platform above the top of the pyramid for that dueling over an abyss feeling. but below the walkway is the slab that makes up the top of the pyramid for a small square duel. the slab is the top "step the the pyramid ". also

if you couldn't figure it out there is a force field over the lava that can be turned off and on. Also the room is enter from above which is the top of the pyramid also the room can be entered by a few steps that break and fall out.

 

=problems=

1: You'll notice that in one screenshot the sky is black when it should be yavin i posted a seprate thread for that problem.

 

2: Another thing is that at a pent III 660 geforce 2 the best fps i can get are 40-50. is that ok for a duel map, for any map i've all ready caulked everything so i think its just becuase its a open map.

 

3: I want the illision of the temple being really high up with out looking like its floating i tried fog but that really eat up fps so i was just going to leave the normal Yavin sky shader bottom for it but i would like a better sugestion

There can be several reasons for the sky being black. What sky shader did you use in that area?

Recently I had the similar problem, only the whole map was black. Was caused by a faulty fog shader.

Use r_speeds to check performance. Framerates can be deceptive, especially on high end machines. FYI, lava, forcefields take up a lot of power to process.

1: im useing yavin sky shader and its worked on other maps its been black though for a while and im not sure what it is maybe its becuase my lava(i took the slime code and changed the textures to the lava to make it)

1. I have a feeling that sof2map compiler is full of bugs. You will have to experiment with this. Try compiling with Novis_Nolight. Your map will be very bright but it's ok. If the sky is visible, then probably the light stage causing this. Try applying different sky shader. Try removing your lava.

yeah i am but right now i need find some way to keep the fps down they are like 20 (granted i have to run my comp on highest quality to get the skys to display right) but yeah i'll email once im done
