Demo runs, crashes, but won't restart...

I am having a bit of trouble playing the demo... the game seems to work fine up until the first time I die. Then when I try to continue the game, or load a saved game, it crashes and I end up back at my Windows 98SE desktop. If I try to restart the game I get the following error message and it won't start:

After I reboot. I can start the game up again. I was really interested in buying the full game, but will it have the same issue?
