lapino
after applying patch 1.03 (never played it before the patch came out) and using EAX, I get a very serious drop in framerates. this is on a XP2000,Ti4600,768mb,audigy system, so not low-end eh. all other games run great, and JKII runs fantastic when i don't use eax, but with it, i get VERY serious framerate loss. any1 else noticed this too? Dark Sith Lord
I experienced that problem also until i upgraded my cpu from a weak Intel p3 533mhz to a Intel p4 2Ghz so i can play the game with EAX and good fps without any problems at all. With your high-tech comp it may be your motherboard or maybe BIOS (not updated). Mostly if u upgrade your BIOS you should experience improvments like in games but not always anyway also what type of motherboard are you using ?? may be your motherboard that gives u that problem just guessing anyway good luck and may the force be with you :-p . Swifty
Hell, in MP I can't use EAX at all, or my AMD/ATI system locks up completely. For some reason, SP works fine with no FPS hit at all.

knyte
Personally I dont know what the big deal with EAX is, Ive got the Audigy Platinum which obviously supports it, it works fine with my system, no slow down or anything, what I dont understand is why people are so adamant about using it (besides that its popular and "cutting edge") there really, in my opinion, isnt that much of a difference in sound. You get a little more echo effects and things can sometimes sound like theyre farther away, hooray. It really doesnt make that much difference, ESPECIALLY if the music is turned on at all because you cant hear the "special" effects anyway. My advice is just leave EAX turned off and go with standard sound, youre not missing anything and for lower end systems you save the vital processing power for your much needed grfx memory. Also, I bet at least half of the people posting here dont even know what an audigy/creative card is and theyre enabling EAX anyway....
ForceBoi
Doesn't EAX give you 4 point surround (if you have the 4 speakers)? I can't imagine playing JK2 without positional sound! And if you enable EAX on a sound card that doesn't have EAX hardware support (ie SBLIVE/AUDIGY), you'll definitely experience slowdowns.
lapino
uhm, I think the Audigy should very well be able to do EAX in hardware, but then WHY the slowdowns? Don't notice any in other games...
