Remote admin and private slots

Hi all, I checked the sticky but didn't see answers to these questions -- if I missed them, sorry about that.

 

Anyway, here's what I need to know now that I have my ded server working:

 

1. How do I set up private slots for my friends, and how do they access them?

 

2. How can I remotely admin the server from my gaming comp? I need to be able to kick folks who log in and lag the server (I know it *shouldn't* happen but it does -- some guy joins, his ping says 999 and everyone else's ping goes to 999 until he drops).

1. to set slots for private clients.

 

set sv_privateclients x

set sv_privatePassword x

 

 

2. you need to set an rcon password.

 

set rconpassword x

 

then from your gaming pc bring down the console and type rconpassword x and then to use the commands you normally would put rcon before them. e.g. rcon kick playername, rcon map ffa_bespin

Thanks very much, that's just what I needed. One thing -- how does someone join a private slot? By just putting the password in on the join screen as if the server was passworded?

I think it will only works when the server is full. If someone trys to join when the game is full and you have private slots open it will ask for the password and then they enter it. Not sure though mine has never been full

It works when the server is both full and not full.

If you connect using your password (even if server is not password protected) you are automaticaly assigned one of the private slots. I run a server with only 1 private slot (for myself!) and I know when I am using my private slot because I become client number 0 on the server. (rcon status).
