Launguage Courtyard (w/ french room and gate to hell) WIP

Yeah, you read it correctly "with french room and gate to hell". I'm making a map of part of my school, a courtyard with classes built off of it. I'm in 3rd year french with my friends. I really do like my teacher, she's very good at teaching, but in the name of fun I'm going to add a gate to hell bellow her class. Useing a hidden elevator that is in a cabinet behind her desk, players will be able to decend into her firey throne room. Of course, the class and courtyard will be playable too.

Status: I'm almost done with the courtyard. I just have to add water to the gutters, and them make the paths look worn instead of just grass texture like they are now.

 

I really like this idea because I can always add on other pieces of my school to make it bigger and more interesting. I'll release the finished courtyard as a stand alone map. Then I'll add the class, and the throne room.

 

 

I do have some questions that if answered would help me out.

 

1) Where is the lava shader?

2) How would I make the lava hurt people?

3) How do I change the orrientation of .md3 models?

4) How do I make a nice looking sky? Do I just make a big box around my map and apply the sky texture to the top face?

5) Can somone direct me to the best elevator tutorial?

6) What free web site service should I use to post pics on? Yahoo seems a bit unreliable from what I've seen.

7) Is there a way to make the music transition in different places on the map? (like it switches to an annoying french song in the class, but then when you go down the elevator, it switches to the throne room music from SW)

1: i made a lava shader cuz the one the game had sucked you can take a look at it here.

that thread has a link to my screenies also while your there post your opinion of my map:D

 

2: make a brush the same size as your lava and make it a trigger_hurt entity texture it with the trigger texture in system and the hit n to change the rate of pain (you can also make a fadding death with a scream if you set dmg to -1

 

3: use the "angle" button in the entity prop window

 

4: make a large box surounding your map hollow it out and caulk(in system set) it then go to the skies texture set and choose the sky SHADER you want (the green and white or blue and white checkered things) apply the shader to only the insides of the box (select a face with ctrl-shift apply the texture then hold ctrl-shift-mouse botton 3 to apply the same texture to a diff face

 

5:there are hundreds of elevator threads the newest one has to do with scripting try an older one first if you want an eassier one

7:don't add annoying music
