I keep crashing during loading of the maps and sometimes in middle of the game. The screen seems to freeze what it last saw and the sound just loops over and over till I have to reboot which is frustrating. Im running a Xp Athlon 1900, with 512ddr, Ge Force 3 200 for graphics, Super Fast Cable Connection, With Sound Blaster Audigy Sound Card. If anyone knows what I can do to stop the computer from crashing please leave a response here for me.

I still haven't overcome this problem, but I have been monitoring the Freezing thread and there are several theories about what you can do to fix it. (This should be a fairly good summary of the Freezing thread for those of you who don't want to read through all 12 pages of it!!!)

If Lucasarts/Raven is watching they might also use some of this info to track down the BUG and issue a PATCH!

1) Turn off GL Extensions in the menu

2) If you use nVidia drivers, use Detonator 23.11 or 28.32 drivers

3) Make sure your system is not overheating (mostly unlikely, but has been the case for some users.)

4) If you have certain motherboard chipsets you can upgrade the BIOS (see the Freezing thread in this forum.)

5) Back up your save games, uninstall the program and then reinstall (preferably in a different directory on your hard-drive.)

(Reinstalling your Detonators in between may also help.)

6) Set your system to Standard PC if it is set to ACPI in the Hardware configuration. (Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Computer)

THINGS IT IS NOT

* It's not your OS or video card, but only people with advanced T&L cards seem to have the problem. I only experienced it when I upgraded from a TNT2 to a geForce2Ti

It also occurs on systems with Radeon cards. Some people with seemingly identical system configs run fine while others crash and burn.

* It's not specifically the Quake3 engine, but it something to do with the JKII version of the engine. Most people say Medal of Honor works fine until JKII is installed. Someone recently reported a similar problem with Soldier of Fortune 2, another Raven game using their modified Quake3 engine.

* It is not fixed with the v1.3 patch and some people have had worse problems after installing the patch.

THINGS IT MAY BE

-> It may be a hard to track down hardware conflict (maybe RAM timing)

-> It may be something to do with texture formats (perhaps compression) This may explain why so more people seen encounter it worse at the Doomgiver level than anywhere else.

-> It may be a sound driver/video driver conflict

-> It may be JKII getting confused when setting options in the in-game menus.

-> It may be JKII incorrectly setting GL options in the video drivers. (There are more and more speculations about this because some people are reporting that their WHOLE SYSTEM is becoming unstable after experiencing this problem with JKII. Games that used to work now freeze and even applications like Winamp start locking up.)

Whatever it is, it seems to get worse over time.

I believe that this problem can only be fixed by Lucasarts/Raven with a patch. We have had very little feedback from them on this issue. (I was told by them to reinstall the game to fix it. It worked - for about three days and then started freezing again.)
