Bone placing in nonconforming model oriantation

My question is can I move the bones that I imported from the Kyle root xsi file to conform with my model. Basicly my model is in more of a spread eagle position than that of Kyles arms pointed down position.

It is suggested to leave the skeleton in place and fit or build the mesh around it...

 

My advice is to follow that rule, or you'll probably en up with a very distorted mesh.

 

It doesnt work with a fully skinned model, i tried it.

You should be able to adjust the bones to fit your model without any problems. As long as you weight your mesh properly, it should animate the same no matter what your original pose is.

that is what should happen, however in my experience that is not how it works unfortunately

try comparing amodel that has been weighted aligned to the bones as to one that has the arms in a different pose. You will find that the arms don't line up right in the end
