RectalFury
Haha, I don't claim to know how to build a lightsaber, but you thinking that the Heisenberg principle and the light barrier theory are actually valid is quite quaint.

Light is a FORM of energy. Lightsabers could be using plasma for all we know. We know that plasma is a high energy material that is luminescent. Also, if a lightsaber was truly LIGHT, wouldn't just about the entire room be illuminated when ignited? Granted, I have no idea how to make the plasma finite either, but I just felt like telling you that conjectures are bad if you don't use em right. Ferox
i remember seeing on like TLC a show called " the science of hollywood" and this woman was talking about making a real light saber. it was something about bending light and keeping it bent, and the amount of power it would need is too much... or something of that effetc. im sure something like that would exist in the future, but why have a light saber when i can shoot you with my laser gun? MotionMan
They way they explain it in the visual dictionary, is that they use special crystals that emit energy. They dont really go into it more than that. I could be wrong I just scimmed through it.
covenant_bad
I think someone already mentioned this link but im going to aswell. This is a quote from http://www.synicon.com.au/sw/ls/sabres4.htm : If we imagine a rod shaped charged field of atomic-scale cross-section, which is superconducting and rotating at near-lightspeed, then charge regulation becomes the control for the particle emission type and quantity. Such charged fields would tend to repel one-another (if they are of like polarity), which means the blades would BLOCK one another. The site has really in depth speculations about how they could be made.

Plasma is superheated ionised gas, and therefore could in theory be contained by an electromagnetic field, but then the colour of blade would be diffeent depending on the surrounding gas - eg sodium ions glow yellow and ionised air is blue/white. Therefore the blade colour depending on crystal used is out of the question. Also large pieces of machinery would have to be used to generte this field. In short, I don't believe that lightsabers could exist as we know them, but maybe in some other form? If these principals do not hold true then quantum physics would be in turmoil. I'd like to see you come up with better theories then Einstein and Heisenberg.
