KingNacho Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 Hey guys. I just downloaded GMax yesterday. This is the first 3D model I have ever created. I heard someone mentioning they wanted Yoda's Safety Blade, so I gave it a go. Tell me what you think: http://www.geocities.com/darthnacho69/wipyodasaber.jpg (Copy and paste into browser) or try your luck with Geocities and click it: http://www.geocities.com/darthnacho69/wipyodasaber (I figured it out... Drag the link into your address bar.)
SithBrakiss Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 dammit.....yours looks better than mine...*pouts......* But hey, atleast you guys end up getting a higher quality saber hilt
KingNacho Posted June 22, 2002 Author Posted June 22, 2002 any suggestions? this is my first model ever...
KingNacho Posted June 22, 2002 Author Posted June 22, 2002 anyone know were i can get some nice shiny metal textures? and some black vinyl/rubber too... no dirty sites either, lol...
SithBrakiss Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 yah,the hilt gaurd is a bit off,it doesnt jut out in the center,it's completely flat, other than that, great model,i love it.
KingNacho Posted June 22, 2002 Author Posted June 22, 2002 Pardom me for being a moron, but are you talking about the metal sheet by the blade emitter?
KingNacho Posted June 22, 2002 Author Posted June 22, 2002 Bump.... Help. I really need a good metal texture. I dont want flat grey...
Cyper Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 make your own, if you can, thats what i do, here, here is an example. http://webpages.charter.net/ebrey/example.jpg btw: i did this real quick and can do alot better job, i just did it to show you. i did this all in photoshop, useing the airbrush tool.
snakeeyesa27 Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 It's too fat, and the little piece of metal on top is wrong (blunt). but otherwise very nice! You can just take kyle's saber texture, find one, or make one (use kyle's as inspiration)
SithBrakiss Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 Originally posted by KingNacho Pardom me for being a moron, but are you talking about the metal sheet by the blade emitter? Yup,t'would be it,s'upposed to be a quote "Hilt Gaurd",but wouldnt stand up to a lightsaber blow for sure.
KingNacho Posted June 23, 2002 Author Posted June 23, 2002 Lol. Yeah. More for looks than any kind of a guard... Well, I fixed it, it doesn't jut inside, but stays nice and flat now. And about it being too fat.... it's not too fat, but when I was resizing a few of the shots in photoshop i kind of blew it out of proportion, the finished model will hopefully look much better.
KOP_+GOD'sLion+ Posted June 23, 2002 Posted June 23, 2002 Good job on the saber, but how do i make my own? where do i start?
Lord -=[FBF]=- Posted June 23, 2002 Posted June 23, 2002 http://www.btinternet.com/~howe_alison/brothers/tutorial/gmax_jkii_tutorial.htm that should get u well on the way 2 saber modelling!
KingNacho Posted June 23, 2002 Author Posted June 23, 2002 Hey Lord FBF. Your tut has helped me out alot. But I'm having a hella hard time with the UV Unwrap and getting my skinmap done. Could you kind of walk me through that part of the tutorial where you do the skinmapping a little bit more?
Faye Ying Posted June 23, 2002 Posted June 23, 2002 its called an "emitter shroud" guys, hahaha only 2 practical reasons i can think of is 1) allows your thumb to rest on it safely 2) blocks glare when the saber is held high anakin's sabers, and vaders both had similar shrouds
