Question on 'Fetts'

It could be argued that Jango Fett is a descentdant of the race of Mandalorians, a group of highly skilled, highly lethal warriors back in the of the Jedi/Sith wars. Very little is known about them, execpt that they were worthy adversaries to the Jedi, and fought on the side of the Sith. This would stand to reason why he has perfectly intact Mandalorian armor, which is semi-resistant to lightsabers.

If anyone has any other info on the Mandalorians, such as if they looked more like the Calamari or something, then let us know, but I think that this would be the explanation for Jango and Boba's natural abilities.

The Fetts are just normal, albeit highly trained and determined, humans.

The Mandalorians were not a species, they were a mercenary group. Roughly 30 - 40 years before AotC, they broke into two factions, the Mandalorians and the Deathwatch Guard, who wanted to go and take control of everything they could, and a civil war erupted between the two. Jango's entire family was killed by the Deathwatch while aiding the Mandalorians so the Mandalorian leader Jaster Mereel (yes the one that everyone thought was Boba) took in Jango and trained him to be a Mandalorian. Eventually Jaster is killed and Jango takes over. Sometime after that the Mandalorains have a nasty encounter with the Jedi that wipes them out, except for a handful of survivors, such as Jango, who became a bounty hunter afterwards.

This is all from Jango Fett: Open Seasons, a four issue mini from Darkhorse. Issues 1 and 2 are out now, 3 should be out nect month.

Well originaly (IIRC) everybody thought "The Clone Wars" was going to be a series of wars between the Mandalorian "super commandos" and the Jedi. Boba Fett was either a renegade from that group or a guy who picked up the armor from a dead Mandalorian. Did they have the force? I thought I heard people saying that "Jaster Mereel"(sp) was force sensitive, so maybe he was a Jedi student who defected?

In any case, I think that for the most part, the EU fueled "legends" about the Mandalorians were mostly, if not wholly, apocryphal and are now superceded by the events of the canon AOTC film. Oh well...

Then again, we can always wait and see what (if anything) happens with them in episode 3. Remember when everybody thought that Aurra Sing was going to have a "big role" in Episode 2? Another "oops" rumor... heh

Allow me to put an end to this debate on Jango and his origins once and for all:

"Jango Fett was orphaned at an early age, the son of simple Concord Dawn farmers killed by brutal marauders. At the age of ten, he was picked up by Journeyman Protector Jaster Mereel, who introduced Fett to a harsh world of mercenary life. He was raised among great warriors, learning to survive in the rugged frontiers. Though the Mandalorian supercommandos were wiped out by the Jedi Knights, Jango was one of the few left to still wear the armor.

Years of physical conditioning and training honed him into one of the most feared bounty hunters in the underworld. Not even Black Sun Vigos were safe from his dual blaster pistols. On occasion, Fett would tangle with Zam Wesell, as their talents would overlap on similar assignments. Though he preferred working solo, the two teamed up when it was prudent. The two shared a misadventure in tracking down a rare artifact from Seylott, which granted its user incredible power.

Fett all but disappeared from bounty hunting circles as he took time to raise his son. He sought to experience what his life might have been like had he been raised by a caring guardian. Still, if the credits were right or the challenge appealed to him, he would don his battle armor periodically and venture from his hiding place."

Any more questions?
