ellwood25 Posted June 26, 2002 Posted June 26, 2002 hi there, i was wondering what makes my compiling time so long. it almost seems as if it grows with the ´age´ of a map and not with it´s size! i even removed some brushes but i keeps taking longer and longer! does caulk affect copiling time? compiling the light takes about 95 percent of the compiling time. what can i do to speed this up? (other than using a different bsp command.) another question: where can i find information about building stand alone maps including all models and textures (are they called mods?) is it possible to run maps compiled for jk2 in other quake3 engine based games or would i have to recompile them? thanks for your help, i really appreciate it -flo
Monder Posted June 26, 2002 Posted June 26, 2002 I dunno about the compiling question but as for stand alone maps what do you actually mean? Maps that don't require JK II to run? If you do you can't do that. Oh a mod is just a thing that modifies the game in some way(adds new models, maps etc). JK II maps won't run in any other game I don't think. You could probably re-compile them for another q3 based engine though just as long as you could transfer the textures and only used really basic entities.
VIO Posted June 26, 2002 Posted June 26, 2002 no no a mod is something that signifaly alters the orginal code/stuff, not just adding maps, as for the other thing you said if light take for ever it could be your sky shader wat one are you useing
ellwood25 Posted June 26, 2002 Author Posted June 26, 2002 with standalone i mean they include all textures and models needed. even the custom ones!
ellwood25 Posted June 26, 2002 Author Posted June 26, 2002 i am using the yavin shader altered to emit natural light
Monder Posted June 27, 2002 Posted June 27, 2002 Well everyone with JK II has all the textures and models. AS for custom stuff work out what custom stuff you're using and distribute it with your map
VIO Posted June 27, 2002 Posted June 27, 2002 if you mean dling maps with new stuff yes its sort of standalone as you say it comes in one pk3 file which the game reads when you start the game,
