compiling time, standalone map, different games

hi there,

i was wondering what makes my compiling time so long. it almost seems as if it grows with the ´age´ of a map and not with it´s size! i even removed some brushes but i keeps taking longer and longer! does caulk affect copiling time? compiling the light takes about 95 percent of the compiling time. what can i do to speed this up?

(other than using a different bsp command.)

another question:

where can i find information about building stand alone maps including all models and textures (are they called mods?)

is it possible to run maps compiled for jk2 in other quake3 engine based games or would i have to recompile them?

thanks for your help, i really appreciate it

I dunno about the compiling question but as for stand alone maps what do you actually mean? Maps that don't require JK II to run? If you do you can't do that. Oh a mod is just a thing that modifies the game in some way(adds new models, maps etc).

JK II maps won't run in any other game I don't think. You could probably re-compile them for another q3 based engine though just as long as you could transfer the textures and only used really basic entities.
