The ILUM Order

As I'm being asked this in-game all the time and don't want to start having a script just for reply binds, here goes (if you don't belong to those who asked/will ask, please disregard the post):

The ILUM Order is a clan created as a Jedi order on the ice planet ILUM. This planet is the only one with sources of Adegan crystals. These crystals power light sabers. They emit energy when stimulated by sound at their respective resonant frequency (which itself depends on the crystal's size and grinding)

It lies in the ILUM Order's responsibility to pass these particular techniques of working the Adegan crytals to selected apprentices of the order. Education and etiquette (the Code) and training of mind and body are the top priorities at the ILUM Order.

A few words on the education here:

- Use of guns is forbidden (except for educational purpose in private training units)

- Following a two week period where the applicant is being monitored by incognito observers, the council will decide if the applicant is to be taken in. The applicant will be provided a digital copy of the ancient documents that the ILUM Order is built on.

- In public and in private training units, spoken language is English. The order consists of members from all over the galaxy.

- JK2 Version is 1.02 until a proper other version is available

- Participation in maintenance of the training facilities is every clansman's duty (10€ per month). The council is taking care of the basic monthly ependitures (30€)

To clear the website question up front, http://www.ilum-order.com is our home. This week we're moving the servers however, so its likely the page is down or displaying out of date content right now. At http://www.opforge.com a roughly 6 month old version of the page is available currently, until the move is completed. In the unlikely event our former host within two or three days restores broken access to the websites we had hosted there, we'll bring the opforge site up to date before the actual ILUM site (http://www.ilum-order.com) goes up again.

Please don't email any clansmen at their @ilum-order.com addies before http://www.ilum-order.com is up again, because most likely your mail will be lost in the vastness of space.

thank you and may the force be with you all

Due to furhter questions some several people brought up:

The ILUM Order's server is based in Europe, if you're located in the US or Canada, you should bear in mind the ping disadvantages (150-400 pings usually, depending on your exact location and isp) before you apply.

Also, in case the RP explanation of the costs didn't come over well, those 10€ are what the gameserver isp charges for an aditional player slot on the server.

And since I'm posting anyway.. news on the server move:

The website is up again at http://www.ilum-order.com, although still the old version, as the ftp account details haven't arrived yet. For the same reason, the @ilum-order.com mail addies are unavailable still. The issue is expected to be resolved before next wednesday.

cheers

Hi Gambit,

currently it is arker@gmx.de, also possible is to click on the profile button on the bottom of each of my posts, then chose "click here to email Arker".

In case of an application please provide your in-game handle and some details about the character you play, your habits (when do you play, what style of play do you favor), and a few words on why you'd like to join ILUM.

thank you

After considering the game version debate carefully, we decided to move over to 1.03 finally.

Some details about the consideration:

cons:

  • Non specialmoves make less damage, saber defense is stronger
  • Specialmoves make more damage and are faster
  • Yellow mode is faster
  • Specialmoves are scriptable, unlike the normal saberfighting
  • => Strong abuse taking place everywhere, specialmoves are much more efficient than normal saberfighting is.
  • If you want to stay true to the movie looks while fighting, you'll always stay behind in frags, more training necessary to compensate for opponents' advantages when they assfight/pull-backstab all the time (just doing the same is not an option).
  • Hard to keep the temper when someone uses scripts, but sucks in normal saberfighting (if someone is good in both, he's just better, no need for hard feelings there)

pros:

  • No shortage of public servers
  • Participation in tournaments and leagues possible
  • Less bugs, DFA bound to jumping direction
  • Servertools available for 1.03, no longer for 1.02
  • Preparation for 1.04 possible, which most likely will be closer to 1.03 gameplay wise than to 1.02
  • Greater choice when renting the server (full ftp access is no longer required, since 1.03 is installed by default)
  • Bigger player market

What we're doing right now to successfully enter the 1.03 era:

  • Refining Code documents, you will never see an ILUM devotee use scripts, assfight, pull+backstab, use guns (of course), kill someone not agreeing upon a fight, etc. (see 1.02 version of the Code documents for the rest of the etiquette rules)
  • Training up bigtime, due to the self-imposed restrictions, more skill has to be aquired to stay up to par with those not following the ILUM code. Progress is going fine, handling 4 averagely skilled opponents at a time our knights can handle already (we don't have masters yet in 1.03).

The prerequirements for applicants haven't changed except in the gameversion and the additional selection criteria we apply when evaluating an applicant.

I hope this shed some light into our current tasks and the ILUM Order's path.

I've been asked several times in-game now, unfortunately I can't reply to a "may I join your clan" inquiry with "yes" or "no".

If you're one of the people I asked to read this post to get more info on the prerequirements (page doesn't have join info because we never recruit, usually its us who approach someone), by sending you here we don't wish to make the impression we don't care about your inquiry. All the info an applicant has to consider before he applies is too much to explain in a game.

Also, we don't want fluctuation in the ILUM order. We're doing our best to avoid that clanhoppers find their way on our team. We're investing a lot of time into training our fellow devotees and to teach the style of fighting and behavior we believe is the only true way.

You might be wondering about the "why" now: Apart from the fact that the cheap killers, of who there are loads and loads out there, will be leaving the game with the next jk2 patch, we also strictly emphasize teach and support the fair play aspect. On the other hand we also train our people to cope with those people you prefer not to meet, but can't avoid because theres at least one on every server. This program so far has been successfull, those opponents who play fair, respect us and often spontaneously ally with us on FFA servers. Those who play dirty, try it once, try it a second time, then avoid us.

I hope this lays out why I can't reply to join inquiries with any other answer than "check out whats important for us before you apply, because we will base our decision on if we want you with us on these aspects". This is not meant to advertise for the ILUM order, its meant to explain our motives, and give a little insight.

Oh and one more thing, if someone applies, tells us how badly he wants in and how commited he is, and then you see him apply to 2 other clans on the first day of evaluation (where we of course don't wear our usual names), then that person is considered a clanhopper for us.

Some of you might know that 2 weeks ago we lost our server due to the host going out of business.

ILUM now has access to 5 servers on a 2.4gbit line in Europe (the !GameSurf servers). We're using those to hold our training sessions now, without having to pay.

The servers run version 1.04, which finally doesn't have saber exploits anymore. It finally takes some skill again to use the saber.
