Redvan
http://q3lab.telefragged.com/tutorial10/ Ok, i'm down to the sfx/beam shader part, i don't see it in the texture menu (using JK2rad) so i used surface inspector and typed in sfx/beam, and then it turned it blue and black boxed. Is that right? it don't look right. if not what do i do in place of the sfx/beam shader?
RichDiesal
JK2 includes no beam shader. You must make your own or steal one from Q3A or RTCW. Although that's generally frowned upon *cough*
Redvan
that my only option, dang, no other way?
RichDiesal
Nope. Though it's surprisingly easy, once you figure out how to do it. RANDOM NOTE: My original visiting to LucasForums was actually for the purpose of finding a beam shader. The first thing I ever made, I wanted a beam shader (was going through Bubba's Tuts) and never could find out. So I came here. And look how that turned out. In a roundabout way, I suppose that's saying "Don't get discouraged."
Redvan
heh, ok, i'll make my own, you did it right? hehheh, im completly new to that kind of thing, could you give me a starting point?
RichDiesal
Oh, it's just a matter of building your own shader. I really should just go ahead and write that tutorial, shouldn't I... so many people ask. You need to find the shader that you're trying to copy (it'll be called textures/sfx/beam in one of Q3A/RTCW shaderfiles) and copy that shader script to your own custom shader for JK2. Copy the textures over and voila, should work.
Redvan
i don't have either of those files i don't think, i don't have the games. wouldn't they only come with the games?
smackshack180
Yeah, you need the games for those files. i have the exact same dilemma, and i tried making my own texture, but i really don't know much about shaders. it would help to have a tutorial for thet now, wouldn't it?
