Archangel88
Does any one know what the creature that the Naboo Royal Crusader rides is? Do you know any thing about it either. Thanx. jcb231
According to "The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide"...which is a really really cool coffee table book, by the way.....it looks like a guarlara. According to the book, guarlaras are native to Naboo. There are equestrian statues of gualaras throughout Theed, some of which are seen in Episode I. Guaralaras have defensive tusks and claws to assist footing in difficult terrain. They are put into ceremonial dress by the Naboo for Royal use. Some text excerpts are quoted below. Perhaps someone can proide a scan from the book? "The most Royal of beasts, ridden by monarchy only, domesticated guarlaras are sacred animals, revered on Naboo and memorialized in text and theology. The Queen has a private Royal herd to assure bloodlines." "Guarlaras can live up to a hundred years. They are related to gualamas, but are much more massive." "These beasts originated in the colder, snowier climates of Naboo. Their hair is long and shaggy in winter: frequently, their underfur is shorn and used for tapestries." "Captive Royal herds are regularly shorn in mild climates." "Young are born white and gradually darken with age. Mature guarlaras are deep black." The pictures show a handler caring for a guaralara alongside a hunting animal, a carver making a staute of one, the front view of the animals head, an unshorn running guaralara, a Naboo Queen sitting atop a fully saddled and ceremonial dressed mount alongside a white foal, and the rear view of the animal. Additional pages show the gualamas, related animals. A Royal Naboo hunting party is also shown consisting of several types of mounts and hunting animals. I hope all this helps...if you're interested in this sort of thing I whole-heartedly recommend the book, its by far the coolest Star Wars book I have ever purchased. It has more information than you could ever want on the animals seen in the classic trilogy, the Ewok movies, and Episode I, plus some selected EU animals. Tons of illustrations, too...its written as if it were a field guide created by someone within the SW galaxy. Super cool, and the cover is even textured to feel like its made of dewback skin. I'm hoping they put out a supplement to it for Episodes II and III.
