Force Feedback Question

Hey all,

I have a Sidwinder Force Feedback 2 (from Microsoft) and was wondering if you're supposed to lose control longterm when you're hit by certain types of missiles or objects. Usually when I'm hit by a missile, I spin out of control as I think I should, but then the stick returns to center and I'm fine like I'm assuming should be the case all the time. Occassionally, however, the stick continuously pulls to one direction and stays that way for what seems like far too long, and its difficult or impossibly to fly like that. I've figured out that hitting escape to get to the submenu and then going back in fixes the problem, but that's annoying in the middle of a firefight. It especially seems to do this when hit by a flare, but it has before with other types of missiles and even when hitting debris, though its rare in those cases. I'm running Windows XP with the SideWinder software that came with my stick, and I appreciate any ideas on this. (Hope its okay to post this in the General forum - since the forums have died down a bit I wanted to post it in a place with more activity than the Tech one).

Thanks,

Shaun

yeah, i know what u mean....i've got the original ff and it does the same thing whenever o get hit with a projectile. i don't actually think it's a defect...just an irritating detail which probably is supposed to happen. having a fighter's flight controls screwed up by a hit is pretty plausible, after all. want a less annoying solution? don't get hit. :)

That used to happen to me. Try recalibrating your joystick (and/or fooling around with the settings in your game). What actually happens is that the X/Y axes aren't zeroed at exactly the same points. Any little knock will cause the joystick to misalign.

BenTantilles' response makes a good fanwank though. ;)
