razorace
I just noticed something after playing on the internet for the first long period of time (it's normally too lagged for me to play). Somehow lagging inbetween the client and server seems to cause problems with the damage / blocking computations. When playing on the net, players don't seem to take damage often often, in enough quality, and at totally open locations. This is gotta be what people whine about when they claim people can take 5 blue lunges in the back. This seems pretty serious to me as it totally changes the game dynamic vs playing against bots and on a LAN. It's got to be something with the client - server transmission. Could Raven or someone look into this? If we could transfer all the hit detection to server side it could improve the damage scale during a normal internet game. And make the game play better. I think this is easily a high priorty than "unnerfing / nerfing" weapons, moves, etc. What do you guys have to say about that? Razor Ace
Gooey
Not really much you can do about it, other than play servers with pings under the 100's
razorace
Well, it seems like this is messing things up from a server persphcive as well. Does this effect damage results on the server as well?
Eklin
People with pings over 100 shouldn't even bother playing online anyways. And if you see that they're lagging a lot, or you can see their high ping, just kick 'em. Or, set the max ping to 100. I always end up with a ping over 1000 (stupid satellite internet), so I don't bother playing online games. It'd be a waste of time, and it'd only piss myself and others off. razorace
No arguement here. This really should be a broadband only game. I was just pointing out WHY the blocking system sometimes seems to block almost everything. Me, I normally play against Bots or a LAN. It works great on a LAN. I can "feel" it when one of my bros leaps off to my side and gets a slash past my defences.
Gooey
On server side, when I jump onto my dedicated box, it does not seem to make any difference for me. Also I usually play on a lan with friends, so I hardley see lag.
Psionic Jedi
Ugh 100+ ping is hell... you often get slashed seemlingly yards away from the enemy, and lag often "pushes and pulls" you around so if you're running from a DFA it can pull you back into it because of lag. Your blocking is near non existent if you decide to attack (even when attack animation is finished) so you have to be extra careful, or not attack at all. Luckily i only experience this when I am playing on a friend's crappy nondedicated server.
razorace
So basically the leason here is "Don't bitch about the blocking system unless you actually know it's the blocking system and not lag."
