TroopCommander
milkshape3d or 3dmax or gmax.....what would u recommend for a person new to modeling for any game?
Matariel
3dmax is the best, but the other two are free, so make your choice based on that....ive not really gotten the hang of milkshape, 3dmax is exactly the same as gmax in the interface/modelling department but theres no renderer also, plz trim down your signature a bit, it's longer than your message

Matariel
nah, simple vertex modelling is all i do...click and drag a vertex to where u want it to go lots of ppl talk about displacement modelling and other complicated things, but i dont ever use them...may be faster, but i'm a perfectionist just remember to make only one half of the model, and then MIRROR it! cuts modelling time in half (hehehe) if u wanna add aysmetric detail (ie. stormtroopers shoulder pad) do that after youve combined the two halfs
