Need advice for my map idea.

I have an idea for a SP map that I want to make and need some ideas or suggestions about the story, and an idea of how much skill it will take to make.

 

My story is that you are assigned with other random people to board an Imperial star destroyer and try to plant some charges and escape, thus destroying the ship. How ever, after about 5 min of killing stormtroopers, you get ambused by a Dark Jedi who takes out your entire team. You escape unnoticed and cant make contact with your ship. You decide to go solo and complete the mission and get revenge. You go through the ship and get confronted by the dark jedi right near the reactor. It will be like a puzzle where you have to push him into the reactor. You throw in a thermal detonater and run for an escape pod and get away.

 

Thing I would need to learn how to do:

Make some simple cutscenes

Make an intro video of the boarding action

Make some of my own textures

Have the effect of a power core type energy beam

Create some triggers and such

Map a large part of the interior of a stardestroyer

Re-Skin and mabey some alterations on models

 

 

Here are things to consider:

I have been mapping for about 2 days

I never was able to figure out how to model

I dont know how to program

I am a bad artist

I do have access to photoshop

 

It would be great if you can tell me what exactly I need to learn how to do, where I can find tutorials on them, and what improvements I can make to the basic story and all.

Well, I'm not any guru myself and thus I will give you only some simple recommendations. First of all, you said you have been mapping for two days, right? If you haven't used Radiant before that, I would certainly recommend reading all and everyone of these tutorials:

So, to put it simply, start with basic stuff, and if you want to spare yourself, make a little, indifferent map, where you will learn these things, then when you think you are ready, start making your explained mission. Scripting and all such stuff you can learn along the way. And you don't necessarily need any programming apart from ICARUS.

 

First make your map, then start worrying about cutscenes.

Yeah i agree with lassev. First, you design your map and build the simple architecture. Then worry about the cinematics(i call it camera)

 

Perhaps you can study basic camera settings and angles with radiant. Remember, you need to learn some ICARUS because camera events are handled with scripting. So look for examples of other ppl.
