Skin/map making

Hello everyone

 

I an experienced gamer, but i have never tried to make my own skins or map models. I am however really interrested in trying out my creative skills ..hehehe.. and wonder if there is anybody out there who could tell me how to make skins and maps, and of course submit them into use. What kind of programms do i need? And what do i do?

 

I realise this may be complicated to explain, but i hope there is someone out there who can find it in their hearts to help me out.
