Level select picture, what are those oval shaped things???

Can someone please tell me what those 3 little oval shaped objects are on the level select screen??? Soome of the levels I have beat have all highlighted, but some have only 2 highlighted, please tell me what they are, thanks!!!

those are like milestones they tell you if one oval=you passed the level. 2=you got almost enough points to maxout that level

and 3= you have gotten enough points to maxout that level
