War Master
I'm working on a single player map. It's starting to get a little big and it was taking 40min to compile. I was working on just the appearance of the map and I decided to add some models. I added a tram, 2 exploding crates and an ammo rack. I saved it and hit bsp fullvis and watched tv for an hour. I come back to my computer and it says the map compiled in 4 min and 33 seconds. What?!!. I thought for sure JK2Radiant f*cked up my map. I loaded it up and it was perfectly fine. What happened? How come it compiles so fast now? I don't get it.

War Master
I'm happy about it but I just don't get it.
Takeoffyouhoser
I noticed speed ups and slow downs jsut using radiant. I opend up Kejim a few times and sometimes I flew around the map, and other times it just moved about really slow.... Even though I have 512 mb of ram... I do run too many programs at once when on here.... I usaully had easygen, GTK radiant, win-amp, my photoshop program, INternet explorer and searching for Metal mp3's all at the same time.... I did notice a slight lag..lol
Joben
Ive had compile times shift a few percent depending on progams open but realy 40 minutes to 4 seems a little exessive... Â sorta dumb questions but they have to be asked: Did you use the same compile type? does the map run properly? are large chunks of it missing? Are you shure it actualy took 40 minutes the first time? perhaps you just missed the 'finished' message on the compiler window... Â save the map under a new name so you can check back on the old one. Then compile it again and watch it carfuly for error messages and such...
War Master
I know it sounds excessive. I double checked everything. Part of my map is a tie fighter hanger, that alone when I compiled it before, took six and half minutes. The new part I added a couple of days ago took 5 minutes. (I build big parts seperately then add them later). Anyways when I put everything together(3 parts) I didn't think it would need 40 min to compile, maybe 30 min. I don't know why it only now takes 4 min 33 seconds to compile.
RichDiesal
Sure you didn't delete a highly lighted curve somewhere? duel_kamino took 40 minutes to compile. When there were 3 columns instead of 2 columns, it took almost 5 hours. Lighting curves takes a huge amount of time to compile (simply because the lightmaps are much more complex than with brushes), so you might have moved/deleted a light/curve without really realizing it. War Master
Thanks Rich, I'll look into it. I also got to learn about detail brushes and all that too.
Quotation
Yeah, perhaps you just hit CTRL-M unintentionally.
