quamosity
yeah, I had the same problem. That milkshape tutorial leaves this part out and I apologize for including it when I posted the tut. What you need to do is make a couple new folders in the same directory as your md3 file. You need a folder called MODELS and inside that folder another folder called WEAPONS2 and then inside that the folder called SABER. Put your texture files in the SABER folder. Then, load up the md3 and it will detect the texture. I believe the tutorial I posted says something about a .skin file. The .skin file procedure doesn't work, so you do not need to use it. Let me know if this doesn't work for you. -quamosity
STEVEMFRED
thanks ill try it, do i need to change the skin mesh path to models/players/model/weapons2/saber? or just models/players/model/skin.tga?
STEVEMFRED
i still cant get it to work, what would be the path exactly like base\players\model....etc. i need a similar path for the md3 file and the skin file like u have done, i think i screwed it up
Wes Marrakesh
I *think* that this is the path you want: C:/blablabla/GameData/base/models/weapons2/saber/

STEVEMFRED
it doesnt work, quamosity or someone who knows, post a picture of both windows explorer and the q3 control file of one of your saber models so i can do the same cause my stuff is all screwed up now
quamosity
http://web.umr.edu/~mlang/jk2/Pictures/saberhowto.jpg I kept the md3 in the root directory and put the texture file into the /models/weapons2/saber folder (in this case saber_q_koth). When I loaded up md3view, it found the correct texture in the /saber folder

KBell
well, what i did was create a folder in my C: drive called "my saber" then in that i created a folder called Base, then in that i made on called models, in that i made one called weapons2 and in that i named a folder in there called saber. Then i saved my saber's skin to My saber.jpg and put that in the Saber folder in the folder i just made. Then i put the Md3 in that same folder and opened Md3 player up and opened the md3 and clicked import skin and it worked....
KBell
oh and dont forget you have to have the Saber_w.skin file too. But instead of the last part of the line that reads /saber_w.jpg you have to delete that part and put in /my saber.jpg
STEVEMFRED
is a .skin file the same as the .qc file that is made? if so do i just rename it to .skin and quamosity said i didnt need a .skin file since i am using ms3d. so do i or dont i for it to work in md3view? i am getting confused

KBell
just do exactly what i just said to do. Open up Notepad and type this in w_saber,models/weapons2/saber/my saber.jpg Then rename your saber skin to My saber.jpg and move both the .skin file, the md3 file and the saber's skin file to the folders i just told you to create. Hey, it worked for me
KBell
it probley doesnt work because of one of 2 reasons. 1- you dont have raven's Md3 viewer ( but you should get it in my opinion) 2- you are working WAY too fast. take your time because this stuff takes awhile to snap into a person's head. so take your time and make sure EVERYTHING is correct because you could have just missed a single period in the name of the file or something... STEVEMFRED
this is for my lightsaber not a person model thats why i didnt think u were paying attention about the .skin part-just to let u know. i have the md3view by raven-u would know if u click on the link on my first link on my first post of this thread. i think it has to do with my exporting it, i dont know. but this is my first time trying this once i do it once i wont forget it. KBell
well i WAS paying attention to the part about this model being a saber but what i WASNT paying attention to was the part about looking at the pics more closely anyway, this is all the advise i could give you, this is the way i always get my sabers in game. If you want, you could send the file to me ( if its in G-Max form.)
STEVEMFRED
ok i am not trying to fight u, like i said before i am using ms3d (milkshape 3d)-thats why i've been asking for quamosity's help cause he uses milkshape for all his models that he has made. in about an hour i will be at home and ill try and convert it to a gmax file and post it tomorrow-cause my work cpu (which im at right now)has a faster d/l so i d/l g-max at work & ms3d but it expired (although i tried using the registration code bought(for my home-which is in use)-but i think u can only use on one computer(i dont know)) so thats why i can get to u tomorrow also i've been working on this for the past 3 days not 10 minutes. quamosity
i think i see the problem. You have updated your .qc file, but from the looks of it your md3 file hasnt been correctly exported with this new .qc. Go back into milkshape and export your model to md3 again using the new .qc with the correct directory structure and all of the files in the correct places. Then import it into MD3View and export it to glm again. that should do it, I think -quamosity
STEVEMFRED
i was thinking along those lines and since my ms3d is expired at work i had to waite till i got home to do so. hav u ever had the problem of ms3d saying its expired, then u register, then it says relaunch and waite 2 mins and then it doesnt work? cause i would think that it should read my purchased registration code-even if my home pc is using it.
