Reactor last bit - help

I am in the reactor section the last bit. I have cleared the first section, but when I get in the hover platform, it gets blown up and I get stuck on the brackets on the wall. 2 questions:

1) Is it possible to kill the troopers before they blow your platform up?

2) Is it possible to jump between the final 2 brackets without using cheats?

1) No

2) Yes, but you don't have to.

 

The esaiest way to get over is to IGNORE the hovering platform and jump on top of all the "brackets".

or you can get onto the platform and use force speed when you get in sight of the guys with the missile launcher, it will give you time to snap a few shots with your long range weapons (I preffer the bowcaster for this task) then when the missile it close, hop on the brackets
