obi
dude, that would be one of the coolest things in the whole world to have an ACTUAL WORKING LIGHTSABER. i think that we are in a new age of technology and make an actual lightsaber.but i bet they would sell it for like 5 thousand dollars or something.but it would be awesome to have one. ps to jedi kanigget: keep me informed on this please! ------------------ Han Solo, best smuggler all around
Guest Acid_Rain327
Yeah right, heheh. If Lightsabers even went into production, there's no way in heck they'd be available to the public. They'd probably be used for military purposes, as shameful as that is...

Guest Kurgan
Guys, this isn't *really* a fully functional lightsaber. Why? A real lightsaber you can duel with. Laser beams go right through each other, and it appears that this one is no better than the "plasma blade" and "neon tube" lightsabers you can already build or buy yourself for anywhere from $100-800 using kits or ordering them off the 'net. This one appears to have laser beams encased in a type of tube as if it were glass or plastic. So in other words, it's just a glorified flashlight. I've read technical articles saying that a REAL lightsaber (of laser or plasma) could be produced, but the "handle" would have to be the size of a building, and they wouldn't be able to have the blade terminate, so it would have a "handle" on both ends. And I wouldn't think about trying to save up the money to buy that one either.. can you say billions? Kurgan
Guest George.Lucas
If you actully looked at that picture up there, you'd see that at the bottom it clearly states the saber was made after the picture was taken and imported those oldschool camera flashes to make it look like it worked... And I believe it possible that one can be enginnered with smaller parts within 5 years, exact duplicates of lightsabers in starwars. FACT!

Guest Kurgan
Fully functional lightsabers, identical to the ones seen in "Star Wars," in five years? Somehow, I just don't think so. They'll probably have teleportation, time travel or hyper-space perfected before that. ; ) They don't even have HAL yet... Well maybe not, but think about it.. it took them how long to shrink the computer? Kurgan
Guest Shinigami
if they ever did make working lightsabers, they probablly be like on futurama, just billy clubs.. they wouldn't go "VWING, VWING, VWIIIIIIING" ------------------ Duo Maxwell: the UNcouncil's Authority on Animé "Only fool fight man with Brisk!" Guest Plo Koon is No. 1
Even though that would be totally awesome, I'm pretty skeptical. Real lasers don't cut through anything. This thing couldn't slice someone's head off unless there's some laser beam I've never heard of. Still, the idea is really kewl.

Guest 84Elan
Plo 1 what are you talking about lasers don't cut anything???? Of course lasers cut things it just depends on the amount of power used. Yeah your little laser pointer is not going to lance anything yet a industrial laser can be focused and used to cut any number of materials from Alloys to fabric. The problem with a light saber is like Kurgan said you can not contol a laser ray. It must have a start and stop point if not, you have a laser pointer. But never underestimate the power of the Nerd. Guest Argath
Real lasers don't cut through anything. Powerful lasers can burn holes through steel. Lasers that damage other objects can even be cheaply bought by consumers; CD burners work by burning out pits in organic material.
