how do i make a cylinder thicker?

I have never really played around with cylinders so bear with me here.

I want to take my storage vats and make them verticle. The bottom is a cone, the main body is a cylinder. I'd also like the top of the vats to be open ( no cone on top ). However, the cylinders and cones are so thin it wouldn't look right.

How do I make the walls of these patches thicker so it looks real?
