Guest Master Kenobi
It was just announced that star of stage and screen, Alec Guiness, died today at the age of 86. I have just heard this on the news, and was shocked. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe we should have a moment of silence for a fallen Jedi. Guest Jedi Kanigget
I've checked several major news sites with no avail. I believe Kenobi, but I can't find confirmation. ------------------ New! Guest Master Kenobi
Sorry Wart, but it's true. The news came to me on a special report on NBC. I've been searching for confirmation online, but haven't found any yet. They may have updates on the news tonight if that will help anyone. Guest the13thJedi
Hey Wart & Kanniget, Why do either of you need "confirmation"? It doesn't matter where you hear it. He is gone, and it is a very saddening thing. the13thJedi ------------------
Guest Darth Wart
I guess to verify that it wasn't some vicious (or simply unfunny) prank, not that I seriously doubted Master Kenobi. My friends and I have the hobby of gratuitously annoucing the deaths of each other's heroes ("Dude, did you hear the voice of Bart Simpson just died? I wonder what Fox is gonna do...?"), just to get a reaction, and I thought it might be something like that. Hence, NONE of us believed (until we received indisputable "confirmation") about the deaths of Princess Di, Sonny Bono, John Kennedy, etc. Stems from this sick hobby of ours. I don't know why I'm so depressed. After all, it only took Luke himself about 5 minutes to get over Ben's death: all he had to do was shoot some tie fighters out of the sky and he was instantly in a good mood again... Anybody read his book, "Blessings in Disguise?" I'm gonna watch some old films of his this week, "Tunes of Glory," and "Kind Hearts and Coronets." Anybody can recommend any others? ------------------ Wart Get your free JPB guide at: http://jedipowerbattlesguide.homestead.com/JPB.html
Guest Darth Wart
BTW, it would be nice if you guys would text-paste all the net obits you come across in this string... I've only found one, at CNN.com, in the link above ------------------ Wart Get your free JPB guide at: http://jedipowerbattlesguide.homestead.com/JPB.html
Guest Dave Maul
Other films? What about the ones most of us remember him for: the original Star Wars Trilogy. ------------------ Dave Maul
Guest Jedi Kanigget
I wanted to know why and when. All Kenobi told me was that he died yesterday. If I just said "Oh, that's a very saddening thing" and that was the end of it, that's hardly an afterthought. Sir Alec Guinness deserves a little more than "that's very saddening". Wart, the only other movie I can think of is Bridge on the River Kwai. I haven't seen it, but it is on AFI's list of 100 best movies. ------------------ New! Guest Dave Maul
he was admitted to Henry VII Hospital on Thursday becuase of illness, and died on Saturday. The cause of death has not been released as of yet, but at least we know it wasn't something as vicious as an attack or murder. Seems like he was just old. ------------------ Dave Maul
Guest the13thJedi
Wart, A good Alec Guiness film to check out would be Doctor Zhivago. Good Film. the13thJedi ------------------
Guest Kurgan
Yes, it's sad to see a great actor pass away, but think of it this way: It's pretty rare nowadays to hear about a "famous person" who died peacefully at a ripe old age.. who's life wasn't dogged by scandal. I mean how many folks do you hear about who died of drug overdoses, in accidents, or got shot by crazies? Alec had a good end. It's ironic that Star Wars, probably Alec's least favorite series of films to be in, is what he is now best known for. CNN used the main picture with their article of him in Obi-Wan Kenobi garb. He hated being in Star Wars! He'll be rolling over in his grave, once he gets buried. ; ) That's another original SW actor who has gone to his rest.. (Peter Cushing is another). Here's to you Sir Alec. Kurgan
Guest Dave Maul
Don't forget the guy in the furry jacket who played 'Jabba The Hutt' in ANH (I forget his name). He passed away some time last year. ------------------ Dave Maul
Guest Kurgan
Something like 400 people die every hour.. I think that's the statistic. May they all rest in peace... and may their loved ones be comforted. Kurgan

Guest Qui-Gon Jeff
I will miss him. He was a great actor. I found out and I was just so shocked. And it was ironic that at the same time I was playing JPB with Obi Wan. May he rest in peace. "He was the greatest fighter pilot ever, And a good friend."
